I love what UBI did with the SH4 environment... but it could be a lot better, if you mixed SH4 water with Microsoft Flight Simulators realistic weather WOW jaw dropping in my opinion to be crusing in calm water in your sub and see thunderstorms on the horizon!

another something to borrow from flight sims would be a round earth instead of a flat one... this would not only make realistic navigation more accurate but the northern lights, polar regions, magnetic variation, and lat/long would all accurately come into play here.

MORE COMPARTMENTS - sub sim commanders want to feel like they are actually in command of a boat... so give them a boat for the love of pete! from the stern tubes to the bow tubes - recreate as much as is possible! yes - - - right down to the crapper

INTERACTIVE CREW - to go along with all of those new compartments we need crewmen - maintaining engines, loading and unloading torpedoes, sleeping in their bunks, eating dinner at the little table, reading books etc etc... give me a crew and make them animated enough so that its not a 30 day patrol of watching my Chief give us a pole dance :rotfl:and these crewmen cannot all have genaric faces, they should model at least 100 faces into the game so that no two people on your boat look the same.

add some sort of role playing element - give me something to do when im in port... instead of dragging a medal over some image of a generic sailor perhaps an option of calling him into the office and presenting it to him personally? i want to be able to visit the sub during down time and see it in various stages of complex maintenance and refitting... i want to go to the officers mess and interact with other crew etc i would almost settle for a "SIMS" like experience. I just want to feel like when im out at sea an element of my kaleun's "life" has been left behind - and that there is something to look forward to in returning to base other than a refit, a changing calender and to head out for the next go at the enemy!

working and mannable stations, radio, radar, etc you know the ones.

AI subs is a must in any sub sim - when a submerged sub catches a surfaced sub off guard it is a disaster and this should be modeled into any sub sim that takes itself seriously. It would greatly change the tactics and add to the diversity of the threats we face.

wounded crewmen - if a crewman is shot by the planes machine guns during a crash dive i want to see his blood all over the command room floor - war is hell and all is for nothing unless the gamer comes away realizing this.

if the damage control indicates that flooding is occuring in the control room or the radio room - i want to go there and see knee deep and rising water.
For all the things youve said here i would sacrifice beatiful graphics from SH4!
I would even pay Ubi double price for SHV with all those features.
I would even forgive them all bugs

Dear Santa Clause, I've been really good this year and i don't want too much this (or next) year.

Just give goddamn working AI subs!

Subs that:
shoot torpedoes
submerge and surface
organize themselves in wolfpacks
react on the players contact report

That's the irony of these games:hmm: I think exactly the same, and would pay not double but three times as much a normal game for a really really good and bug-free sim. Using very simple maths, UBI could earn the same with 1/3 customers if more people thought as me, which I think is the case for at least 1/3 of the buyers of SH4:hmm: . But trying to please wider audience that has in fact less interest in naval games and is more used to other genres, ends up shifting development efforts into areas that are nice looking but pretty unimportant when compared to core gaming.

I don't get it, they know they are in a niche market, yet they refuse to benefit from the good points of niche markets: Loyal customers with much more money available (Age average higher) and ready to pay more for a good game. Why do they fail to recognize that?

Such is life...

They just dont make much good games anyore. If you look at Flightsim X, from MS for crying out loud, it was a big dissapointment. Not a machine, even in the upcomming year could play it fluidly. They have patched it now, under much pressure of the
communities.

Just mention a few good games of the last year and a half ? there arent much around. 5 years or more a go they were much more polished.
Its imho now more and more quick bucks, and move on. With so many customers world wide, they will sell whatever the quality is.
If you sell a niche product, then its even easier: no alternative.

The only solution would be to make a sim ourselfs.. and that must be possible. Someone out there is even making his own flightsim, and it does actually looks quiete good. And flightsims are much more demanding to program. http://blogs.labtech.epitech.net/blo...tegory/55.aspx

There is enough knowledge in the community, so who does the teamup?

We have had a few world war 2 sub sims now . What about ww1? I am not sure if there is one out right now. But it would be pretty cool to be the germans in ww1 in a sub.

If ubi did SH5 I would be certain many people will think twice about buying it after the spectra of SH4. If some one else did it well maybe. :hmm:

Has the series come to an end I don't know but I hope not.

Actually, mate, there is one out! http://www.amazon.de/1914-Shells-Sch.../dp/389874566X
Drebbel has a quite interesting thread about it here:

i have to say, i'd love a cold war/modern sub sim with sh4 graphics and compartments! it doesn't need to have the same complexity as Dangerous Waters but slightly more sophisticated systems than SH3 and 4.

I completely agree with what you have said here.

Good question. If only they could provide us with an answer that makes sense.

Since this is at least the fifth SH5 thread I've read this year, I have nothing left to say.

The other game i play, total war, which is similar to SH in many ways, is also peppered with threads talking about the next generation of the game. The problem is that in each thread there may only be none, one or two orginal suggestions, a lot of repetition, and the thread rapidly drops down into the depths and the process starts all over again a few weeks later. The good ideas are lost.

I think there are already some great ideas in this thread and no doubt sailor steve and others have come up with all manner of equally great, or even greater ideas, but may never be seen by anyone.

I think this could be solved by a stickied thread under the control of one moderator or community long timer. The first post could be used for storing the best ideas in concise format. All ideas and suggestions would be posted in the thread, and for an idea to be added to the first post it would need to be seconded and thirded by other members. Something similar, but without the seconding aspect, can be seen here if you are interested http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=59901

This way, the finest ideas would represent Subsim's considered suggestions for the designers of the next SH game and would be kept in a place where the designers can easily find them!

It is obviously not the case that every idea can or will be used, but it is also not the case that every possiblity will naturally occur to game developers. There's always stuff that people haven't thought of.

For me, I have a long list of suggestions too, but that's enough for one post

Well, I hate those damn Egyptians. And the Cartageners (or whatever they are called in English)

Rome Total war is a great game, but gets very repetative later on, and .. boring.

But alas, I stubled on http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/gallery.html

So SOMEONE is indeed busy with alternatives.. tried a brief test, not too bad but one needs to get aquanted alot.
