That said, I do support the development of a 1.3 patch that finishes the code, and I support that objective by offering CONSTRUCTIVE and ENCOURAGING criticism, and by promoting SH4 and encouraging sales so that the profit balance sheets allow for further development. Like any corporation, Ubi will want their product to have a good reputation, if their product sales will support it. If the product is perceived as a failure, and sales tank due to bad publicity, there is no point in them putting more money into an already lost cause.

Frankly, if there is no 1.3, I will walk away convinced that 1.3 was killed by the players ruining the base product's reputation. That would be sad, because I play SH4 every single day, and enjoy it each time.

Well said.

Although some will argue that the products reputation was killed by it's own flaws, not the players who complained about them.

The rest is sound advice though.

In my view, the only thing worse than killing people to support politics you believe in is killing people to support politics you don't believe in.

Where would someone recommend that I get a copy of Silent Hunter III without allowing Ubi Soft to profit from my purchase? From everything that I’ve heard about it, it sounds like it’s something that I would like to have on my computer to play. Thanks!

I have SH3 and SH4 too.

I've been playing SHII and the Pacific Aces mod. To me they are enjoyable.

Perhaps they care. I could see some possible results:

- improved SHIV through another patch
- a better overall SHV on release day
- no SHV at all, why bother with these people they say
- very few modding options in SHV, since modded SH5 might keep people from buying SH6
- frustrated developers
- lots of laughter in the office - "who is this bobo guy" ?
- strange looks, nodding, etc.

All i'm after is another hefty patch or a few more minor ones to get things like the radar fixed. SH4 is a much better game due to several things.

-Graphics
-Theatre (I'm Australia so it's nice to see my country on the map for once.
-Mission variety (Recon missions, commando drop offs) awesome work!
-Ability to refit
-New crew management

My game no longer crashes after 1.2 and to be honest SH3 still crashed on me last time I played due to the old crew management bugs.

Very well put !!!

SH4 will be great after 1.3 patch (perhaps 1.4) and few mods,
but now this is waste of time, and IMHO SH3 with GWX and few other small mods is much batter in many ways, especially sounds and realism are important for me, SH3 is now PERFECT. Silent Hunter IV can be perfect too.

Best Regards

I think SH4 is the best naval sim yet, even though it is more arcade-like than SH3. I'm playing both, and I like SH4 more. I don't know why, I'll have to have a serious talk with that guy in the mirror, but some other time...

I don't know why SH4 shipped unfinished, in a worse state than SH3 first shipped; maybe it was because that some top brass over at UBI France made some bad calls to have the game ship unfinished, maybe there were some bad calls made by the dev team (let's face it, they may be good but they're still green for the gaming industry) regarding what to leave in the game and what not to, maybe the deadline was too short; anyway, the situation sucks big time, but it still is the top naval sim on the market.

I can only hope that the dev team DOES release a patch soon that finally fixes some serious hardcoded issues the game obviously has. Imagine the potential of SH4 unlocked by a proper, hefty patch released by UBI Bucharest - a GWX mod tailored to the SH4 engine, as I'm SURE all of the great modders on this forum have already thought about. WOW!!

Did ubi give in to public or other pressure to release this game before it was truly finished or some other reason? It is clear to me they should have not for another six months to a year which could had made the deferents from what we have now and what we could of had.

What is done is done and I hope ubi will move forward and correct all these bugs as I am fed up of my boat going to the bottom of the sea with minor damaged to moderate damage. The good folk at ubi have the power to turn this game back into a good game in which we all can enjoy, so please let's see the issue of these bugs sorted once and for all.

Guess your not up to speed Steed.

It was released before it was finished to meet the "Quarterly" profit projections and trim overhead.

My primary concern regarding the current situation is (as I understand it) select members of this community were beta testing the game prior to its release. So I can sort of see why there is a kid glove approach within the community towards handling UBI or am I completely remembering things incorrectly?

I like that - why should we bother - post! Because the rest of us feel cheated into shelling out $50 for something that is broken and may never be fixed. I have an extremely bad taste in my mouth from UBI that I will not quickly forget. If they do not fix the Chronograph in SHIV at the very least, then I can honestly say they will not get my $$$ ever again.
