I wonder how well it would work, for us to pool our money together, maybe a pledge system or something, and put it up for grabs for any dev group willing to make what we want? They could recieve payment only when we voted and decided the product was finished to our satisfaction.... Ok, I've started a thread on this, so we don't hijack this one: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=115165

Translation
' 'Wir wissen dass die Situation momentan sehr aufgeheizt ist und wir sind momentan dabei eure Raktionen zu beobachten und zu dokumentieren.
Gleichzeitig arbeiten wir in Zusammenarbeit mit Subsim.com an einer Liste um Probleme in Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific zu erkennen und weitere Schritte zu planen. ' Which translates to: "We know that the situation is very heated at the moment and we are here to register your responses and document them. At the same time we are working together with subsim.com on a list to recognise problems in SH4 and to plan on further steps." An eduction pays off sometimes.

Maybe they had enough of all the drama,
look if there is a patch , sit back if there is going to be no patch, well UBI signs its own grave right there.

It's hard not to be disappointed since many things are pretty broken, things in the manual do not work in the game. Having an highend PC the game still suffers heavy memory leaks, I still have see-through sailors (no no-dvd crack, original dvd and serial), radar broken, sonar weird to use... I can count a few more.
The game is very promising to become a very good basis for having IXD2 there... ![]()

AMD 64 3200+ 1 gig RAM Visiontek Radeon XGE X1300 512mb video card Onboard sound. Yep, not a super machine. I have all sliders to the right. Options unchecked: EE(fog is a killer for FPS), water glare, 3D water, sunlight rays(also a FPS killer). I get 15 fps as the average low and 60 fps is average high. Mods installed: USS Drum texture (hi res) Green button mod Reduced radio traffic mod(clipboard issue) interface texture mod Remove grainy look mod when using PPF. (great little mod here) I have had exactly 3 CTD: 'A' key Heavy weather and convoy(twice for this) I found my two girls had downloaded Sponge Bob games all day. Clean it up and defrag, none since. I guess I have about 100 hours of play time in. Tweeks: X2 on the AA (traded off PPF for the lower AA) X6 and PPF my FPS was crappy. I'm happy with the rendering. That is it. Not a super computer by any means. Not to much tweeking. The game is very stable. As a side note, I installed vanilla, 1.1 then 1.2 right over it all. I do not know if this helps but it worked for me. As for the radar....I just do a Crazy Ivan every now and then!

As far as radar, I put on Ducimus' FTT 2.4 and my radar works no matter where I'm headed ![]() Uber Gruber, I don't know what the secret is to getting SH4 "stable" - I can only guess it's a certain combo of hardware, software, drivers, etc. that makes it either stable or unstable. Plain-vanilla 1.1 was totally stable for me, and 1.1 with mods added was also stable. Those 3 CTD's I got came after putting on 1.2 but they are so rare they're not worth my attention. Guess I got lucky somehow ![]() At any rate, I'm hell-bent to enjoy this game. And with a little effort I can. I hope there will be a 1.3 and maybe even 1.4 but if there's not I doubt I'll commit seppuku. OTOH, if there's not a 1.3 I'll give many months of thought and observation before buying another UBI product, instead of jumping in headfirst like I did with SH4. DH |

I was hoping the 1.3 patch to fix the radar but it not I will be looking into Ducimus fix. Until then, Crazy Ivan at the top of the hour!

Hi All, I am a long time Lurker. However I feel like I need to say something here. I have been playing Sub Sims since Silent Service. So I have some background in this area. Mr. AVGWarhawke. From what I can gather you are a very reasonable person who obviously knows his stuff and loves Sub Sims. I do respect your point of view. I did agree that the game is playable. I also agreed about the Radar, I considered that the biggest issue in the game, everything else could be worked around. After playing for many days and weeks however I now believe that the weakest part of the game is the Japanese AI. I have experimented with this over and over. Yes sometimes they do the right thing but mostly they do not. Example - I set up in front of a convoy with 4 Escorts. Submerged, Scope up. Lead Destoyer passed by within 600 Yards. Never saw me. Put 3 torps into a freighter, waited, never moved. Left the Scope up. The Destroyer behind me made a run at me. But for some reason stopeed dead and ignored me. Convoy now has slowed to 2 knots or stopped completely. I reload, Shoot again. Hit another merchant. Still no reaction from the escorts or the merchants. This scenario has been repeated many times. I have lost all fear of the Japanese navy thus ruining any feeling of accomplishment. I have addressed this to you because you seem to be having so much fun with this sim. I was wondering if you have not experienced this behaviour and if not I'm wondering why
Sorry for the long post Al |

![]() I started the ball rolling to demonstrate to Ubisoft, in a constructive way, that while SH4 is a fairly good game, with some excellent qualities, it still needs additional work to be a complete game, and a successful game. As a community leader, I’ve put forth the assertion that yes, SH4 falls short of the bar set by SH3. I try to be a reasonable man, I understand this is a business for Ubisoft and I respect that. So I do not expect every single thing I can imagine to be fixed and added, but after careful consideration, I am compelled in the interests of the players and Ubisoft to say, "It ain't done yet." That's my opinion. At times Ubisoft displays a monolithic silence; I don't like to be a pest and nag "what's the status of a patch?" But after getting a runaround, this guy says ask that guy, that guy says ask the other guy...I'll just ask all 26,000 of you. Do you agree, Ubisoft would benefit as well as we would benefit, by finishing the game? Romania is the world’s best resource of skilled, experienced, and successful WWII subsim developers and artists and Ubisoft would be prudent to let them finish the job. Not only for the people who, in good faith, bought the game in its unfinished state, but even more importantly to the customer base who have not bought the game yet. The thousands who are considering buying it soon when they upgrade their PC with their tax return, their summer job money, or their quarterly bonus. The thousands who loved SH3 and would like to dive into SH4 but have held off because it was too rough until 1.2, and without additional work, would disappoint them. The thousands who are waiting to see if Ubisoft is going to set SH4 adrift with borked convoy leader AI, imperial measurement discrepancies, and a stopwatch that, while it has a great name, does not have an important feature to simulate a captain timing a target to estimate its speed. The reason I don't make threats, employ harsh language, or distribute pitchforks is I respect Ubisoft. They damn well could avoid this whole situation and make a "Battlestations: Midway" clone, which is a nice little game, but it is not a simulation. And simulations like SH3/4 and IL-2 set Ubisoft apart from so many other game publishers who only make FPS, RPG, and kid's games. Ubisoft has a great asset in the Romanian devs, who love simulations and know simulations, and Ubi makes it possible to play a new subsim every few years. Ubisoft has come through in the past, with the beleaguered SH2, and the fantastic SH3, and I think it is sufficient to collect a few thousand posts showing interest in the 1.3 patch to achieve our goal: complete SH4 and keep subsims alive. It's the same mantra I used in 2001, when SH2 came out; rough, hobbled, and lacking key features. I was a first hand witness to the tremendous amount of time, money, and work that went into SH2, and I cut the devs a little slack. Sure, it's not what we hoped for, but if it does not sell, no SH3... and we know how SH3 turned out--a landmark piece of work. So instead of leading Ubi to the gas chamber, I asked for and recieved the source code to SH2, a game that was not a year old, and hired a programmer to improve it. I paid him $1000 of my personal money upfront and you guys contributed another $9000. I felt this was necessary to keep the hobby alive. In this situation, Ubisoft should step up to the plate and let the dev team do their stuff. Ubisoft made SH4 to sell as many copies as possible and to allow their talented dev team to create something unique, something they love. I want to see SH4 sell 200,000+ copies, for it's the only way there will be an SH5. And completing SH4 is a key part of ensuring its commercial success, let there be no doubt, Ubi. Good hunting! Amen Neal.
I wasn't aware of the SH2 story. I'm impressed. And humbled.
