Hi Guys

Same thing here, i'm running a vanilla european version and arrived to grid Be53 on May 19th 1941, stayed there until May 28th with no results, once a day i submerged to 30 meters a did a manual hidrophone sweep with no results.

Can you post a map image of where to search for them ?

Cheers

two great stories there.

I've had these radio requests on my current campaign, but got the message fro BDu that it was all over before I could get down there

At least now I know its inevitable in the game and you cant change the course of history.... However it does sound like there is prime captial ship hunting available if you can get down to that area in time.

For anyone asking, this type of scripted battle is not in the Stock Version of SH3. You need a mod.

I saw two other WWII events that are modelled in GWX...

Operation Dynamo, the retreat from Dunkirk. Many, many contacts there! You need to get there in time, but if you do the place is infested with dd's and merchants.

I tried to sneak into the harbour to sink2 passenger liners stationed there, but it is a certain death wish to try to get in or out alive due to the shallow waters and the countless destroyers patrolling there.

Time compression is almost impossible because of the many contacts.

The next patrol I was ordered to look out for English shipping off the coast of Norway.

I decided to give the area North of Narvik a visit (there is a town on the SH III map just north of Narvik, can't look it up now) I found a bay filled with heavy transports and troop ships.

Too bad troop ships suddenly start moving when I fire my torps....they did this on 2 separate occasions... (bug?)

I decided to surface and finish off the tranports with my deck gun, but they were of the armed variety; I took a few quick hits so i called it a day and limped away submerged.

Oooh what could have been: there was definitely more than 50 K tonnage present in the bay to be sunk, but the suddenly moving troop ships stole my heroes welcome.

At least I got about 30 K of tonnage.

I even found an iceberg off the coast of Norway....nice going!

These events are mentioned in the manual and they're there as advertised!

If you are referring to my story:

Certainly...stock SH III doesn't have all these historic goodies!

Look it up in the GWX manual; it's a nice read...

The historical campaign off the coast of Norway in 1940 is definently my favourite GWX events. Troops landing north of Narvik, and also in the area of Åndalsnes(a bit south of Trondheim) allows for opportunities to get up close and personall with several troop ships. The roaming Carrier Illustrious Task Force is also very possible to track down, due to frequent reports from Luftwaffe and other subs.

In my last campaign (with the patrol starting around 1 April) I assigned myself a patrol grid off Norway, and around the 15th or so, after crusing back and forth dodging enemy task forces, I got a report of a huge task force heading my way. I guestimated the course, went to PD and waited for three hours or so. And there, Lo and behold, the Illustrious, two hvy crusier and a dozen destroyers roamed into view. It was around midnight and stormy weather, but with some carefull manuevering I managed to get into firing positions and slammed four torpedoes into the Illustrious. Beautifull

On my way back to Germany I got a report saying help needed at Åndalsnes. I went there and three troop transports escorted by about five or six destroyers. I held my distance and popped up to deliver a contact report and a hour or so later a horde of Ju 87's came screaming in, sinking all but one transport and a destroyer. I tehn sank the transport with my two last torpedoes, and went home quite content. Alll in all, the best SH III experience I ever had.

Danlisa

Since i arrived to the area (in the stock game) nearly one week early, i decided to go to gibraltar to try to find another task force for a couple of days and then get back to BE53. During the last day on the area i bumped into a "small" task force, one King George V, one revenge and 10 assorted destroyers. I've been trying to nail them daown since sunday, my best results is King George sunk, revenge crippled and 4 destroyers feeding the crabs on the bottom .

But now at least i know that i don't have to get back and try to save the bismarck :rotfl:

Cheers
