So how many German u-boats survived the war intact (not scuttled)?
I was reading a book last night where they said they blew up the entrance to some sub pens to keep the public out after the war, with the u-boats still inside! I wonder if they are still there? |

A number also served in foreign navies. For example, U-123, made famous by Reinhard Hardegen, survived the war and became the French submarine "Blaison", and wasn't decommissioned and broken up until the early 1960's. The Soviets also kept a number.

It is something to see some old pictures of scuttled U-Boats, some just piled up on top of each other

There is a legend, that one of the U-Boat commanders became a pirate after WWII.He resupplied for the last time in May,1945 and continued operating against Allied cargo shipping for some time. After that he disappered with U-Boat and his crew.
