Watch Run Silent, Run Deep - in that movie you see the radio shack in the sub for about 10 seconds, and that's only when Burt Lancaster confirms with the radio operator that no transmissions of any kind have been sent from the sub since they left port. So it gives you an idea of how much it would be used.

In any case, sending radio messages in SH4 results in a good chance that some aircraft will turn up shortly and make life difficult for you.

The good news is that you can however simulate the galley, by going into your kitchen and making yourself a coffee. There is no increased risk of air attack in doing this, although you might cop some flak from your wife or girlfriend if you don't make her one too.
