thanks for that - awesome!

thats one of the best pieces of footage of a merchant sinking that I have seen.

Anyone know what music is being used for it? Wouldnt mind it in my gramophone selection for patrols

The song in the video:

U-Boote am Feind

I. Der Brite prahlt: "Die Welt ist mein",
die Völker Englands Knechte!
Mit deutschem Schwert erklingt ein "Nein",
wir fordern unsere Rechte.

Refrain
Das U-Boot kämpft für Deutschlands Ehr,
für Recht und Freiheit auf dem Meer,
drum hüte dich, Engeland,
drum hüte dich, Engeland

II. Tagaus, tagein und Nacht für Nacht
beschlichen wird die Beute,
bis endlich der Torpedo kracht,
trotz Wutgeheul der Meute.
Refrain

Forgot to mention I'm reading 'The Golden Horseshoe' again at the moment. Nice little book about Otto and U99. Just got to the bit where he sank two armed merchant cruisers (18000 and 10000 tons) and a merch in one action. He kept hitting the cruisers only to see oak barrels popping out. Supposedly these were added for extra buoyancy in just such circumstances. Took 6 hits for one of them as he was in a hurry due an approaching DD!

Hope there are no barrels in GWX!

Hi Vacillator, in case you didn't know "Night Raider of the Atlantic" is about Otto Kretschmer & U99, could you please give the publishers name of 'The Golden Horseshoe' as I am interested in getting a copy.
Thanks.

Reece, 'The Golden Horseshoe' is out of print now, but I picked up a copy on ebay, like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLDEN-HORSESH...QQcmdZViewItem

Mine has a different cover as it's a later printing from 1977 but I assume the text is the same.

Will have a look for the book you mentioned. Cheers!
