It does. Its an independant mega mod.
i just installed WAC OVER GWX and it works good... for now...
im on a mission right now and if i can make it back home (whitout any game crashes) il say it IS compatible with GWX
I would say that you'll probably encounter problems eventually. There are alot of things that happen in these mods and alot of files that need to be lined up. Things will work but I don't think that you can guarentee it indefinitely.

The stock game is indeed easier to learn from. However one thing that we all noticed in the growth of the realism mods is that alot of people would complain "its too hard". What that really meant was "we are used to nerfed enemy AI and find things challenging now, however we lack perspective and are whining".

So if you want to practice with the stock game just be careful that you don't learn alot of bad skills from it.
best way to learn from those big mods is the U-boat training...
play it 10 times or so and then you will be able to go on a real hunt
