Well from doing a google search I cannot find anything that explicitly states that you cannot have a job title that is gender specific. As far as I can make out it is when advertising a job vacancy that can be fulfillied by either a man or a woman that the job title has to either be gender neutral, eg Draughtsperson or you have to specify both eg Draughtsman/Draughtswoman. That I can accept, but once the job is offered I see no legal reason why the gender specific title can't be used.

At work they can't see what the fuss is. They all shout "It's the law but I bet none of them have read the law.

That is unbielevable. I'd file a complaint of discrimination against my sex over that. See how they take it from there. Just as idea.

Tell them you're not an asexual moron with a predisposition to kiss ass.
Better yet, tell them if you cannot be refered to as a draughtsman in your email signature, then you will quite happily change it to 'CADmonkey' or perhaps 'Mushroom' (kept in the dark, fed on ****).

One of my colleagues refers to herself as a draughtsman (draughtswoman on the internal telephone list).

From one Draughtsman to another; don't let the bastards grind you down with their weakness.

Can't see anywhere that this is 'the law' indeed the only place I might expect to find this sort of thing is when you work for the council - then you have to please everybody at the expense of everybody. Damn apologists.

Well I changed my sig to Draughtsman without telling them so until someone notices I ain't going to chagne a thing. Anyway I think on my contract it says draughtsman so if I can dig that out I'll be well chuffed.

Good for you! I'd do the same thing. And if you have a woman on your crew, then you can tell her to use draughtswoman - and tell her you won't be offended.
