@Skweetis, if you have the time perhaps you could create one "SH4 merging toolkit" which covers all the common modded, and hence conflicting, files?

I always wanted to do something similar for SH3 - but never had time.

.....and if this SH4 merger tool could be intergrated with JSGME then, well, i'm thinking Niravana here.

Yeah, thats what I think Im going to do.Besides the Commands.cfg and 1024x768.ini, are there any others that would benifit from a merger program? Keep in mind, Im not programatically capable enough to do this sort of thing with the .sim, .zon, .dat etc. files, as they require hex editing.

As for the command file merger program, it is listed in the Mod List Sticky at the top of this forum.

As for integrating with JSGME, that wouldn't really be possible, as they are written in different languages, and also, JSGME is, well a Generic mod installer, so it works for ANY program (I use it with EVERY game I mod), thus isnt specific to SH3/SH4. Novel idea, but I don't think it would work to well.

Cheers

At the risk of exposing my hex skills which I've managed to keep "under the radar" here for over two years, LOL, hex editing is easy - I can help you out with code snippets if you want. Although, I think the text-based files would be your best target for the first release as they are the easiest from a modder's perspective to change.

Off the top of my head, I am not sure what other files would benefit. I haven't really looked at SH4 yet. But I'm sure one of the active SH4 modders would have an idea by now.

Is scene.dat used in SH4? It was a biggie for changing in SH3.

Exactly what I was about to write. JSGME is not just for SH3, or SH4, it's written as dynamically and generically as possible to work with as many games as possible.
