you should maybe consider holding off launching a full on career or you may find the bugs therein biasing you against what will be (within a very short period of time) an excellent subsim, just my 2cents-- be forewarned.

I can understand that and I'm openminded to the future, but I'm just in shock on how a game developer like Ubisoft decided that SH4 was good enough to be released in such a buggy and incomplete state. If they ever manage to keep support of this game longer then a year *SH3 support ended in 8 months after it was released* then I'm a believer.

Yes buggy it is, but with a few strong coffees you can overcome the issues and still have a good patrol My first 3 or 4 patrols were confusing as hell, Now i love this game, your eventually overcome the bugs and find a new way to play it.
I had the "sub sinks on dive" problem whenever i get a mission near Sea of Japan cause they consists of heading in there right in the DRAGONS DEN and deploying troops or photo recon & getting attacked by Aircraft all the way out, no mercy for a green captain and crew, so naturally there are times your have to crash dive only to sink to the bottom. In one career i couldn't get out of the area. Makes ya think tho, Man WW2 US submariners had some really dangerous/suicidal patrols that it amazes me everytime im leaving the sea of Japan, submerge and like a caged tiger feeling very threaten! And this is just a game. Imagine what it would of been like in real life.

Sry can't offer ya the real help, just dont give up on SHIV yet!

Check the mod section there are a few goodies out and coming out that will improve the gameplay till at least patch 1.2 is out.

After taking a break, getting something to eat, and watching a movie on the FX channel, I feel ready to take it on again!

The pants on my sailors look like bell bottom pants?.. Not sure what to make of it, but damn dude!
That is historically accurate, and was used till the late '90's.
This nautical fashion has been around since the 1800's.

That last sentence was kind of insulting, you scurvy dog, but I'll let it go.

Actually, they weren't true bell-bottoms, which are tight at the top and flare at the bottom. They were stovepipe pants, and they were wide all the way down. The idea is to be able to roll out of the rack and put your shoes on first, thus eliminating the need to stand up, put your pants on and sit down again for the shoes. They're designed to go on over your shoes.
