Default Serious Re-install issues

I started from a clean install, update, and then apply mods I went to work.

First, I just could not get a uninstall to go. Kept on prompting me over and over with the Modify/Repair/Remove menu. Started digging on the support websites and followed their advice. Removed any traces of the SH3 program, cleaned the registry, did a defrag, and used the StarForce removal tool.

DVD will now proceed through a normal install, but at the VERY end, the InstallShield wizard gives a 'abnormal stop' message with no error code and reports that the system has not been modified and to retry the installation. then i get Publishing product information" and do you get the "The install wizard has been interupted..." message?

there was another post similar to this but sadly the link went nowhere

Keeps doing the same thing over and over... any ideas?

Welcome aboard kaleun
Firstly, I'm gonna presume your using the mod GWX If not just ignore the pertinent parts......when you try an install are you clicking on the repair option when your disc is in the drive ? YOU SHOULD BE
If your carrying out a complete reinstall after having (as far as you are aware) uninstalled the game, then follow these steps:
Ensure you have deleted all SH3 files in C\MyDocs
Install a fresh/new copy of SH3
Patch to 1.4b
Create a desktop Icon
Install GWX
Install GWX v1.03 (or whatever is the latest)
Rename desktop icon to GWX or whatever
Install SH3Commander v2.7 and SH3cfg4SH3Cmdr (Highly recommended)
If you are thinking of multi installations of SH3 I would suggest you install Multi SH3 (plus a separate copy of SH3Cmdr for each installation)

Good Luck

Default Install

I had the same problem. I did everything posted above, but I couldn't get it to install. Finally I went to the InstallShield directory and deleted the the registry key which referred to SilentHunterIII. This worked and the install went to completion.

That should always fix the problem. I do it as a matter of course.

That's odd. I bought SH3 and installed it for the first time about 3 weeks ago on XP SP2 and have had no problems. Did a re-install twice, and still no problems.
