Another question from Dummy

I just got done with the lifeguard mission and really had a lot of problems with the crew abd boat..I got over by Guam and got into a gun duel with some shore guns and sunk a couple of frighters.Ok problems..

1.everytime I told them to go to perascope depth I couldnt see anything, what is perascope depth?

They would not ever go to any depth I told them,in the end they crushed us I couldnt stop the boat from going deeper..

After the deck gun started fireing I couldnt stop it..

Whaet do you all think??

Press "P" to order the boat to pericope depth.

Periscope depth essentially is a depth that submerges the submarine to a depth that conceals it beneath the water line, but allows the periscope to break the surface of the water when fully, or nearly fully extended. Pericope depth usually varies a little from sub to sub.

When you submerge by pushing the "P" key, the Depth Dial should show a slow decent to about 50 feet, then level off. The speed of decent is determined by how fast your moving. Flank Speed will put you to your ordered depth faster then 1/3rd.
My guess is that if you checked your depth, and your at the approximate 50ft mark, you need to raise the periscope with the "Page Up" key to it's fully extended height to look around. The "Page Down" will lower it.

If you hit the Crash Dive key "C" your going to the bottom. I do not know if there is a level off depth for the "C" key, but after about 120 ft, I will level the boat by putting the mouse pointer on the Depth Dial and click on the depth I want, say 130 or so. Don't use the "A" key which will cause the game to abort. We 're all hopeful a new patch will fix that bug, for now, there is a workaround found at the "List of Mods" that will fix that problem.

On the other hand if you were in a duel with the destroyers before you ordered periscope depth, if you had hull damage from the battle, you're goin' down.

Something to note...

If you are at periscope depth and you raise the observation scope it will be submerged as it doesn't go as high as the attack scope.

You have taken some damage to your pressure hull and it is failing causing flooding and the inevitable sinking of your boat. When the hull is damaged enough, submerging will lead you to your death.

Edit:

I should have mentioned that if this happens, you may recover by blowing ballast (E key) and setting your speed to flank. (Unless the bow of the boat is lower than your stern.)
