Default Quick question on the towed array

If the towed array is dragging on the sea bed, apart from the fact that it wouldn't do it any favours, I presume that it would make a fair bit of noise, so I assume that could be picked up on sonar.
If this is the case, is this noise and the ability to detect it modeled in DW?

As far as I know, no.

No, however, you have hit on one often overlooked capability of the TA... that is, to see under layers when the submarine is above the layer.

To see this in action, I would recommend going about 30m or so above the layer with your TA out, and going to 3kts in an area with a lot of surface traffic.

As the TA hits the layer, it will begin to lose the surface contacts and then will black out altogether. As it falls farther below the layer, it will begin to pickup under layer contacts and also some of the contacts that were above the layer depending on the acoustics.

It's a critical tactic for ASW in both submarines and the FFG, not to mention for the MH60 dipping sonar.

Cheers,
David

Cheers for the replies, as far as I know it never did it in Sub Command (although can't check that for sure as one my SC disks cracked - while in the DVD box unbelievably Anyone know if they replace faulty media BTW?), so I guess it's no surprise it doesn't do it in DW.

Well it just goes to show there are still a lot of things that could be put into a sub sim. Still waiting for a SOKS array, creeper motors and the escape module on an Akula
