Default US perfects new secret weapon to confound Japs and their own sub crews

Got into a perfect firing position on a Mogami in a convoy, seem to be an awful lot of Mogami's in an waful lot of convoys but never mind.

I fired a salvo and scored a couple of hits, well done, went deep to re load, had a few scary moments with some escorts. Came up for another go and fired at a troop ship, and then it happened, the technological breakthrough of the century, a circular running torpedo!!!

I remembered that there was some advise the Germans had re their pattern runners to dive after firing to ovoid embarrassment and tears so I dived, then to my surprise one of the Jap destroyers came in to dump some cans on me, but, ah.........he didnt figure on my circular running torp which blew him to kingdom come!

SWEET!!

I haven't had any circular running torps yet, or any duds or prematures yet either. ??

It's nice to know that they are modeled in the game. It is reports from skippers such as yourself that give the rest of us a heads up on the dangers of those torps and we can plan an evasion.

It would be nice to get some feedback from sonar though, a "hot, straight and normal" report or a "hot, circling and abnormal" report.
Hey, does anyone know what the report would be if it were different than "hot, straight and normal?"

I used the same tactic using fat torpedoes in sh3, launching the torpedo and lurking over the fat pattern.

sometimes works and is possible to hear the boomm of the explossion 150 m over you

Lucky Stuff! Unfortunatly the USS Tubilee was sunk by her own torpedo, but you managed a one and a million shot on a DD! Paint a rising sun on your conning tower

I had one dud yesterday.

I fired it from about 1200yrds. I followed it on external. It made a loud metal clang and dropped into the depths. I LOL'd. Well done!

There have actualy been reports i've read about the MK14 Torps that dudded like that into the hulls of ships actualy stuck in. I read about a DD that returned to port listing to starboard with a big torpedo stuck in her hull

The understatement of the war goes to a Japanese Naval Officer who when interviewed about the effectiveness of US Subs in the war said "We understood that you had some difficulties with your torpedoes early in the war"

The way the US torpedoes detonators worked makes "perfect" solutions more likely to get duds.

Is that particular way of dud modeled in game? I make most of my shots at 30 degree port or starport to compensate, just don't want to risk a dud like that.

Check your pistols and double check them again just prior to launch.

Evidently the game will reset them while your not looking
