Engine Sounds Emanate From Wrong End of Sub!
The sounds from the engines (diesel and electric) are emanating from the wrong end of the sub, on every sub. When in the control room and facing forward towards the bow you hear the engine sounds coming from the bow and in front of the helmsman, instead of from the stern. I have tested all subs in v1.1 of SH4, and all engine sounds emanate from the wrong end on all subs. This is present when in the conning tower and control room.
![]() This can get especially confusing when in a mission and being hunted by Japanese ships. Because when you're facing the bow, the sounds you hear are those which you would hear if you were actually facing the stern of the boat. For example, you are below periscope depth and aren't using the external cam. Say you're facing the bow and you clearly hear a destroyer pass across your bow from port to starboard, what actually just happened is the destroyer passed crossed your stern from starboard to port (verified from external cam). So the sounds are completely reversed and backwards within the control room and conning tower. When on the bridge, looking through the periscope or using the hydrophones, the engine sounds come from the right end of the boat. I sure hope this is one issue the devs address via a patch. I've been too distracted to pay attention, but I did notice in SH3, when I had the CMSS upmix option turned on, my sounds were all funky-like. I'm about to go out on my second patrol though, so I'll check it out. (I've got the X-fi Music, and I think everythings updated driverwise, so as long as I put my headphones on right, I should have the same results.)
UPDATE: My engines sound like they are in the bow as well, maybe somebody with different sound gear can confirm this is a SHIV thing, and not an X-Fi problem. Last edited by derweissepenguin; 04-02-07 at 01:42 AM. |

Yes, the engine sounds are coming from the bow. The same mixed up with the bow and aft is visually seen when you stand in the control room facing 090 or 270 and order dive/submerge. You can see the boat is tilting wrong way up/down. It is really, really, annoying
![]() That's quite alarming, if the sounds from a ships nearby coming and going are reversed also!

I noticed the same thing yesterday. It's on my "B" list of issues, but yet another example of the god-awful quality control we've come to know and love from Ubi****e.....

Same thing goes with diving and surfacing. One side of the sub leans down and the other Up (if diving). SH3 also had this minor bug.

The sounds are correct. Didn't you know American WW2 subs were front wheel drive??
