Well, move on lads, nothing else to be said. Thank god all the NYGM team or the GWX team didn't think that eh?
Otherwise, we'd all be playing PS3 or Xbox with supa cool subs that dive in 2 seconds, have überfast, unlimited reloads and damage control from the starship enterprise. Wouldn't that be fun?
Yeah it would be a barrel of laughs, we should all do that instead. I mean, wow, wasn't I selfish and nasty to expect SH4 to actually work properly on recipt?
Heh!

I didn't, which is why I didn't buy it.

I think in a year or two it'll be a great game, but right now it's not for me.

Welcome back Penny

Just wanted to show you all something, I took these photos from the sub management screen of my damaged sub. The one that I said keeps sinking like a stone on diving, stern first and no electrci motors submerged?

That is the first image, as you can see damage control is going and funtioning to its best ability with the crew I have available to me.

And the other image, which shows the only damage I have is the guns, and yet I am sinking like a stone. Can anybody make heads or tails of this? Why do I sink like a stone and why do I have no propulsion when I dive?

any ideas?

Nuts to the Atlantic, I am giving those exported criminals in Australia a bashing.

Yes a spot of sarcastic humour on my part.

For what I've read so far none of the devs has stated that "temporary repairs" is a feature, for the moment it's just a guess from the players, hoping that's not another thing that isn't working as it should.
BTW, did you tried to repair the damn AA gun?, it either could be repaired or it couldn't, there's no temporary patches for that.

Yea well don't want to get into a debate but that was answered, there is some level of complexity in SH4 damage that is not in SH3. Namely the concept of "temporary" repairs that allow you to get back home but not to dive...not hard to understand is it? Anyway, it is true the interface is different.
The damage model for SHIV is like a lot of other functions in SHIV - it has a lot of promise, but it has some current issues that make it almost unworkable. Repair prioritization, linked systems, etc. are all going to be very cool once a some of the kinks get worked out - for example, the kink Ms. P. is experiencing, where everything shows as OK but the boat is actually on the absolute edge of total destruction.

I didn't come back to SHIII/GWX because I hate SHIV. I came back because SHIV isn't ready yet. I think it will be a better game. Someday.

That's why I decided to hold off and not be taken in by the hype. And when I start to hear things are on the up for SH4 most likely next year then and only then will I purchase SH4 which will not cause me to swear at the bugs. And on a brighter note the upgrades I need will be cheaper as well.

For now I got GWX and that keeps me happy.

Still patroling the Atlantic thanks to GWX and plan to do so for a while.

I prepared to go to Pacific with 2 GB RAM and a new GeForce 7950 card, but based on the our great forum feedback, I think I'll wait until the next patch.

Besides, I'm still having fun being a U-Boat Captain even though I'm getting the crap beat out of me thanks to GWX. . . what, another radar contact? More planes and destroyers coming my way . . . DIVE!

@Penelope_Grey:
Probably a bug... Also look for a first screen yo posted and look to a far left side where names are, notice 2 guys with no pictures of them...
That ain't looking good...
As for a dive crash, go to a custom mission, try balao or other sub, try NOT TO USE TC over 32x and the first time you hear damage reports, go to external camera, check for hull breaches and if none, dive to PD...
If there's still a problem, [if patched 1.1] return to the atlantic until this bug is sorted out...

I'm happily ensconsed in my U-Boat once again, I'm very excited as my U-Boat of choice the IXC is soon available, and I am surviving my patrols! (for now)

It's 1945 for me and I am ripping the guts out of the Australian convoys in my big IXD2 beast.

I had it on my hard drive but it is off now (SHIV) butit could be back on in two or three months, but the damage control on SH4 is very bad!!! so for now SHIII gets a and SHIV gets a I bet in six months SHIV will look much better and with some great mods. But for now SHIII is the best. And also I like the looks of Libtery ships, C2,C3,T3and T2 tankers much better looking ships, then those jap cargo jobs.

I've also decided to shelf SH4 for a while and come back to SH3. The biggest reason is that my hardware is just not good enoughf or SH4. I've tried to tweak the settings and its no use. Even at min settings it's chunk city. But I think the game is BEAUTIFUL. Some day when I have a new computer, and a few new SH4 patches, I'll play it hard. That leads to my second major cluster of issues - buggy damage control and TDC. For me it's all about torpedo firing solutions, and getting tarnished and half-sunk. I don't want to fight bugs in the TDC, and if a broken damage model is going to send me to the surface, or the seafloor, arbitrarily, then I can't hack it. On the other hand, the point Ducimus made about a serious damage model is appealing. Maybe in a future patch...

Anyhow, right now I'm in the Maldives in an IXC and as happy as can be. GWX forever!

Hm, they take 30-40 seconds to dive, but you must put the crew on battle stations.
