Unless you want to spend weeks and weeks getting back, you're screwed. The same thing happened to me on my first patrol.
 I just reloaded and did the patrol over again, making sure to watch my fuel. Use 2/3 engine setting, it provides far more range than standard on the same amount of fuel.
