Im starting to wonder if there's a bug in relation to using the radar station manually. In otherwords, if i never go to the radar station in the conning tower, and just let the crewman handle it, would it continue to work after saving and reloading the game? Wishful thinking maybe? *shrug*

No, I think you have it right Ducimus. Leave the manual radar controls alone and all should be fine. The contacts will appear on the map in grey color, Ships and aircraft. The SD is bugged and you get air & ship contacts, which should not happen, it should give air only. You might still get aircraft that sneak up on you, I know I have, but overall report of contacts is good. It was only after I played with the radar station in another career that the contacts disappeared.

Another piece of the radar puzzle. I started a career in 44,Balao out of Pearl. Radar would just turn off at random (not due to waves etc.). I mapped the R key to Radar toggle, F to Sweep/Focus & G to Radar Range. I found I was constantly hitting "R" during high TC runs. Once in enemy waters the radar stayed active as it should.??? I have also noticed when my contacts disappear from the scope, If I turn the unit off then back on again they will be right there again. Odd. :hmm:

Happens to me when I'm in a Balao class as well! I don't sail a Balao because of it. Playing SH4 is almost like reliving the Mark 14 torpedo fiasco. You keep finding bugs...

Yes it happened to me at start mission, but radar contacs come back if you submerge and surface.
Another thing i experienced, was i loss al air contacts after upgrade to SJ-1... may be the combination SJ-1 and Improved SD doenst works fine. At next mission, i change my SJ-1 by an standard SJ, and stay with SJ, and Improved SD, and air contacts comes back... |

Here is something im finding with my radars, as soon as you steer any course South of East or West ..... ie the boats bow crosses 90/270 heading south you loose all radar contacts. Turn back to the north and as soon as the bow reaches 90/270 or any degree north of that the contacts return.
It does not matter where the contacts are in realation to your boat ..... only the direction your traveling. |

I, personally, cannot wait til they fix radar.
Will it be possible to turn off SD? or is that always on? |
