I'm very happy with XP. In a few months I'll build a new PC from scratch and I have no intention of installing Vista on it. Untill it's absolutely necessary I'm sticking to XP. It's great. It works just fine. And my only concern is DirectX10, though I have hope either hackers or consumer pressure will get that on XP. If anything, I'll make a Vista partition on the HD just for those things that I absolutely can't run on XP. If that's possible, of course.

But if I ever install Vista next to XP, why not switch to Vista as the main option? Because I haven't been convinced yet that Vista will increase performance. If it's just like XP, with no performance advantages, I prefer the simplicity of XP. I'm still using the Win95 Theme on XP because I find it much more practical. If I'm not using the internet or any software (Word, Outlook, etc.) I'm playing a game. Graphical gimmicks make no positive difference whatsoever. A flashy browser will distract me. A flashy Word toolbar will distract me. A flashy Outlook will annoy me. And when I'm playing a game I'm not looking at the desktop anyway.

What are, afterall, the benefits of Vista? As far as I'm aware, the only one is the new super-cool Solitaire. I'm drooling for it, but that's the most expensive Solitaire game I'd ever buy.

If Vista is pre installed on a new computer, I wonder how many would change it back to XP???

I wonder how many of the sales of Vista are stand alone copies?? and how many returned???:hmm::hmm:

That sums up my own attitude towards Vista very nicely. If I would buy a complete system (if!) with Vista preinstalled, I would kill the HD and install XP again. Game-wise, I have advantages over the younger ones - I am not interested much into new games any more. DX10 is the last of my concerns - as long as SBP will not getting based on it.

It very well could be that my next PC - will be just a laptop. I'm tired of the constant update merry-go-round. i also refuse to run a stronger PSU than I already operate now (550W). 1500W PSUs? Are they nuts?

I suspect the marketing statistics are misleading if not outright false. Microsoft "leverages" computer manufacturers with their product.

Makes for a good press release, especially in reference to millions of small investors ($0.5 million in "liquid" assests) who are too busy to otherwise question the press release, much less have the knowledge to interpret it.

An article in PC Pro states Microsoft are disappointed with the sales figures of Vista so far.
Like Penelope, I am content with XP.

The problem is one day Microsoft will stop all the updates and patches just like Win95/98 and 2000.

Until then XP rules the waves.
