Must not mean much. Could be because no PCs today get sold without it. I know about Saturn Münster (Saturn is one of the two major electronic warehouse chains in Germany and belongs to the same corporation like infamous Media Markt) that a salesman in the PC department said the separatly available Vista copies they have in stock lay "like lead on the shelves". I know that guy, we sometimes meet for spending lunchtime breaks together. I think he knows how the sales with Vista are going in their (big) store.

Releasing high sales numbers also is a means of advertising, and undermining doubts of potential customers.

XP is rock solid, can't go wrong with it can you? And it runs everything, so Vista is just well... meh... who needs it?

I agree. I'll wait at least 6 months more to "up"grade to vista.

Agreed...the majority of those numbers are springing from PCs that are coming with Vista pre-installed...in 2001, when XP launched, 52 million PCs were sold that year. This year, there are expected to be 92 million PCs sold. The difference of 40 million PCs makes the additional Vista sales this year mostly irrelevant.
