Just a follow-up to my earlier post:
I now have been able to coordinate radar with sonar, but can hear anything only when between around 70 feet - 100 feet depth to keel. |

Radar is functioning somewhat, but could be a lot better. I should be able to get air or surface contacts specified and updated.
Also, when I turn off radar (as in a friendly port), I still get radar contact updates (that's broke).

I may be a complete idiot, but I cannot get this radar thing to work at all. Although I equip my sub with the radar available while in career mode, nothing seems to work when I go to the appropriate station. No switch is working either and the "Hand" icon always greyed out. Same thing during the (pretty useless) tutorial missions.
I noticed that Neal posted a sticky (with link to pics) stating that radar and sonar are working as advertized. I will then presume that I am doing something wrong. So, as I see a lot of conflicting assertions on the usual simhead forums regarding this radar feature/bug/non-implementation/user incapacity to use properly, would someone be kind enough to help those of us who are not able to have an operable radar? Thanks in advance. |

I was able operate the RADAR systems last evening with varying degress of success. The trick was to mess around with the yellow buttons on the tool bar.
Also, the range indicator on the "Sweep" unit seems to be bugged. It intermittently flakes out whilst attempting to change the range... ![]()

It is pretty ridiculous that there's no air/surface radar contact differentiation though (which wouldn't be too much of a problem if the SD just picked up air contacts as it should). I'm sure it will eventually be fixed though.

I don't touch a thing. Like you, I equip it at the beginning of a career. As I understand things, this is not historically accurate on my part in December of 1941. However, I wanted to see how it worked and also desired to coordinate it with sonar contacting. Like you, I've never been able to get any switch or knob on the radar station to react in any way to my interaction. Same for the yellow buttons for default radar commands. So, I just leave port and sometime later my radar guy will let me know when contacts appear to him on radar. In the usual manner, these contacts are displayed with ridiculous accuracy, including dead accurate range, and target's heading. I am perhaps more bothered by the fact that I can't actually turn off map updates for targets. I turn it off before career, during port, during sail, before battle, etc. It just never goes away, those map updates. Same for external cam -- I can't get it to stay off. |
