P4 3.0 GHz
1 GB ram, 2 x 512 dual channel
GeForce FX5600
XP SP2
Game Settings: Sound and Graphics at minimum

Result: Unplayable, game is waaaaaay to laggy. But no crashes or stuff like that. Only thing that runs smooth is the pre game menu :-)

BUT: THIS WAS TO BE EXPECTED BECAUSE THIS IS VIDEO CARD IS NOT SUPPORTED BY SH4

I might get a more smooth game by increasing RAM, but I think I will get a whole new upgrade, including mobo/ram/cpu, and a PCI-E vidcard.

I am wondering how much free ram you guys have before starting up SH4. Because stating RAM does not help much is half of it is already used before SH4 has been started.

In case of hardware-demanding applications like FS9 I use Enditall2 anyway, not allowing more than 17 or 18 background processes. FS9 being the only sim where it makes a noticable difference, however.

On the www I read: This version has been superseded by TaskPower 2

So is Enditall2 still the best to use ?

I honestly don't know, Drebbel. the program you mention I have not heared of (and since Enditall2 does what it should I was too lazy to ever look for a replacement). My system usually has 25-29 running tasks, 25 at start, 29 after some time, orwhen I have opened and closed some applications (probably indicating that they do not get properly shut down). Enditall helps to reduce that number to 17-18. Reading the web, it appears that tech wizards agree that reducing that number even firther increases the probability of an instabile system dramatically. Enditall does not list all the tasks I would see when opening the windows task manager, however.

I also have manually disabled or set to "manual" a number of usual services Windows normally would run.

I am no friend of uncontrolled automatisms...

P.S. just had a quick gooling for taskpower2. enditall2 has one advantae over taskpower: it is all free, taskpower is shareware. Not too expensive, though (< $10)

cfg editing without much luck if I may add.. I am rather dissapointed when I see how good fps other people with almost same or older hardware then mine, runs game as smooth as up to 60 fps!!

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4200
RAM - 2 GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM
XP Media Edition/SP2
Graphics - GeForce 6150 LE 256mb (integrated P.O.S) ---------soon to be replaced with GeForce 7950 GT/512MB

HD - 250 GB SATA 7200rpm

Plays SHIV at lowest settings very, very badly though it loads up quite fast, faster than SHIII. I am looking forward to my upgrade so I can hopefully play the game smoothly.

Athlon 64 3000+
1.5GB RAM DDR
GeForce 7600GS 256MB

~ Maximum settings, 1024x768, no vsync.
- Runs smoothly most of the time, some stuttering while in port or when the environmental effect's bug happens.
- The option that most affects my performance is also environmental effects (but looks great)

I had some issues with my 6200 so I got the Radeon X1300 512mb. Much improved. Cost was $150.00 US. If you can score one you will be happy with game play etc.

Nope, no joy.

Athlon 2700
1G RAM
ATI 9600XT 256
on board sound

Graphics on low only, cursor lags badly, so slow and jerky that I can't set up a manual TDC shot in training misssion. Sound is crap.

Requisition has been placed with the appropriate supply depots for a new control system for SS WARFISH. Navy department bureaucrats are questioning the $ outlay.

Dammit isn't there a WAR on!?
