How can you tell how much O2 you have left?

I have been driving one of the S-Boats around Manila, and yeah, under constant air attack, too. Anyway, I'm trying to sit out the daylight, but periodically get the message "Run out of oxygen, we need to surface the boat!"

Thing is, the store gauges are all fine. Diesel (of course), plenty of kick left in the battery, 'compressed O2' (isn't that just used for blowing tanks?) still topped off, and while the CO2 is certainly up there, it's not even 1/4 of the way up the bar. What tells me I'm running out of air? (Now, if the CO2 gauge is actually measuring the REAL CO2 level instead of the proportion to lethal levels...then yeah, I can see that. Air with a 25% CO2 component will be...difficult...to breath.)
