Night time is the right time to recharge. Stay submerged during the day. 3kts to save battery life.
That is a big roger. My friend who served on Archer-Fish said they did exactly that, and that's what I do. Ahead slow, and your batteries will last you (almost) from BMNT to EENT (sunrise to sunset). periscope depth for visual, hydrophones for audio. At night, surface and recharge batteries, fire up radar, and haul ass.
