Hmmm. An example of what I am seeing can be found in the first screenshot by gronbek:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=107785&page=3

The sun is there, but the glare isn't. Its the same for sunsets.

Yeah, I'm seeing the EXACT same thing - just started another thread on it, I guess a dup.

Are you running any mods at the moment? Using the stock .exe (patched or unpatched?), right? Running with V-Sync on? FSAA? AF?

I really want to get this fixed - it really is a lot like the 'bloom on' and 'bloom off' difference in Sh3...but that shouldn't be happening, here!

Yes! Bloom effect, I couldn't remember what it was called in SHIII. I'm running afew mods (ultimate sound, green lamp button mod) but the problem was there from the start. I manually edited the config for V-sync on and have reset all ATI Catalyst settings to their default - application controlled. As far as the .exe, I have a retail version from Gamestop patched to V1.1 .

I read over at UBI last night that the copy protection may be interfering with certain features of the game like the eyes of the crew. After reading that I fired SH4 up and at certain times the crew have missing eyes . Kinda reminds me of "Event Horizen" where the crew rips out their eyes. According to the devs, they have found that in afew cases this happens even if running a legit version so their checking into it.

Are you running ATI or Nvidia?

Hmmmm. I'm trying a re-install right now. The graphics got screwed up (REALLY BLURRY!) after XP noticed I held the shift key down longer than it thought I should and dropped me to desktop. When I reentered the game none of the buttons would work unitil I hit the ESC key, after that I had control but it just looked like crap.

Seems more like the issue would be the ATI vs nVidia instead of the copy protection, though. I run a pretty 'plain Jane' system. I have Nero installed, but none of the virtual disk stuff it has, and no other imaging or CD copying stuff installed. (I'm also a software tech professionally, so run a VERY clean system - registry always A-OK, always defraged, no viruses or spyware or anything, etc) Never run into a copy protection problem with any game before.

As you seem to have guessed (or found from another post), my system is ATI-based. Radeon X1950 Pro.

I also turned on the v-sync, though - it'd be unusual for that to be related, but...had you seen this BEFORE changing that setting? Otherwise, I'm completely running stock Sh4 + patch, and that's it. No other changes.

Same here, I don't have any bloom on my sun with an ATI x850xt, with Vsync enabled. Haven't tried it with it disabled yet.

Have you had a chance to try with this disabled?

Also, which Catalyst driver release are you using?

Well the extreme blurry effect I experienced seemed to be a driver issue - so after 2 reloads of SH4 and 2 reloads of Cat 7.2 drivers I'm back in business.....But still not bloom effect

It seems we have a reverse situation in SH4 - in SHIII Nvidia users couldn't see the bloom effect but ATI was fine. As far as the V-sync question, I had played for awhile before changing the v-sync setting - so no, for me bloom was never there.

As far as the copy protection, you never really know what issues it can cause. I never would have guessed that missing eyes had anything to do with it until I read the Devs post. I run a pretty lean system as well, outside of Nero there is nothing that I can think of that would cause the protection scheme to question my copy of SH4 at all.

At this point it seems to be ATI specific, but it would be nice to have afew more confirmation of the effect not working or atleast 1 shot of an ATI with the bloom. Guess only time will tell.

For you guys not getting the excellent sunrise/sunsets... do you have 'Enviromental Effects' checked?

Does anyone get the beautiful effects WITHOUT having EE checked?
