Another reason to hold off on buying it. Bloody hell. I never understand why Canada gets the short end compared to the US so often. Its not as if we don't have a strong gaming culture. Hell we make craploads of games too. Between Ubisoft Montreal and EA in Burnaby Canada is a hotbed for gaming. Why we get screwed on the receiving end likely has something to do with NAFTA. We get screwed by that so damned much.

Default No Bonus for Canadians

I bought mine in Canada today and got nothing either. Not even a keyboard guide or a colored manual - just a black and white one. Very disappointing - it seems that Canadians are the only ones who will get no chance at bonus materials of any kind.

to be fair.. you are canadians... your greatest military achievement was you were the first to develop the ICBM

Intercontinental Balistic Moose... you got a moose drunk on Molsens and Maple syrup and launched it with a wooden catapult.

Default EB Games?

Is this just a problem with EB Games, or is this happening with all Canadian retailers? If EB Games was somehow responsible for the packaging disappearing, then I will try to get my money back and buy it elsewhere. But I imagine that this a national problem, and not with a particular retailer.

Have any Canadians bought their copies from another retailer - maybe Futureshop or Walmart?

Yeah, my manual is about a hundred pages. Only problem is, it's half English and half freaking French!

No DVD documentary either...

(UBI, I'm in Toronto. WE DON'T SPEAK FRENCH HERE!!)

lol, pretty funny

But I have to point the following:

Vimy Ridge, The Somme, The Battle of the Atlantic, Juno, The Schelt, Ortona, Kapyong. Ever hear of a fella named Billy Bishop? I could go on.....

Got my copy of SH4 today at EB downtown Edmonton. I was disappointed too

Maybe it's because they just spent millions building a new studio in Montreal

It seems to be a National problem. I have been told that Ubisoft support is blaming EBGames saying that that was the version that they ordered. Trouble is that it also sems to be the version that Futureshop must have ordered.

No worries.

On the official Ubisoft Website, on the official Ubisoft forum, an official from Ubisoft posted the following...

================================================== =====

US/Canada Packaging
$49.99
Can be purchased from official Ubistore and major US/Canada Retailers and online stores
Available only for a limited time, no other versions available in US/Canada until time runs out
  • Premium Packaging
  • 100+ page manual including reference material
  • Fold-out historical map of the Pacific theater
  • Fold out ship recognition poster
  • Quick Reference Card
  • 1-hour of WWII-era documentary footage about U.S. submarines from Periscope Films on a Bonus DVD (Region 0/All)
================================================== =====

So this is a Ubisoft problem for them to solve. Contact them through Ubisoft support, respectfully point out that they have officially and publically committed to supply this material and request instructions on how you can receive it.

Default SHIV Bonus Materials

I will contact them tomorrow morning. I don't see why Canadians should not be getting the promised materials, and I don't see how it could be EB Games or Futureshop's mistake (unless they opened and resealed each game, stealing the materials in the process, which I would regard as highly unlikely).

I too paid $62.00 for the game, but I expected bonus materials and still do.

I oughtta smack you! Oh wait. I'm a Canadian! We don't fight back! We're sissies!

Deadeye acquitted us quite well. Militarily Canada has been and still is quite remarkable given our small size. Bother the French and Brits tried to take Vimy Ridge (at the time the most heavily defended point on the Western fron) but only the Candadians could do it, the first time, AND with incredibly few losses by WW1 standards. WW2 we were all over that Navy business and we trained like 3/4 of the Allied air force (including tons of Americans). We had splendid land soldiers too. Much of Caen was bought with Canadian blood. I could go on and be verbose or just take a swipe at the US for not joining the war sooner (classic Canadian retort) but instead I'll just be proud of my nation and leave it at that.

I think that we in Canada repeatedly get the raw deal economically. Hell has anyone checked the exchange rate lately? The Canadian Dollar is worth around 85 cents American. So why is everything nearly twice as much as it is in the US? Free Trade is a joke. Its more like Free Trade for the US if they feel like it. Hell Mexico has a better NAFTA agreement than we do. Thank you very much Mr. Mulroney.

BAH! I guess I'll be buying this baby online probably.... eventually.:hmm:

EDIT. Oh yea and remember 1812? We so kicked America'a ass (technically the Brits did cause we were still a colony but still).

I too would like to voice my anger at this, as I was really looking forward to the bonus material. It was going to be the real highlight of the purchase for me, and I was looking forward to some good bathroom reading.

And what do we get? A really ****ty manual, that doesn't even tell you what the difference between submarines is. As someone who isn't particularly well versed in american submarine knowledge, I find it rediculous that I'm just picking a sub at random. To make things worse, the "Museum" aspect doesn't help fill that gap at all.

Truly very frustrating.

It's the dual language requirement.

I'm willing to bet the retailers and makers defense will be that Ottawa made them do it. The requirement for dual lauguage meant everything would have to be in both French & English, and it was not practical for the cost to create all the materials in both languages.
