I've had this problem for ever (NYGM, GWX, stock?). It drives me crazy. I'm not sure what triggers it - it seems to be tied to the loading of sounds. It happens especially often when I'm on the hydrophone trying to locate my attackers. I get that crashing awful sound for an indeterminate period. I don't know what stops it. I suspect it's also a sound loading - like a new sound or something. Anyway - if anyone figures this out, I would _much_ appreciate it. I suspect that the .ogg codec is to blame. I've had this bug in other games that use .ogg. I've tried installing a new codec but it made no difference.

Personally I have never experienced this, in any variant of SH3.

Have you tried turning the hardware acceleration down in either the DXDIAG screen or your audio properties?

Also, if you have on board sound (i.e realtec) there is a known problem like this which is caused by older versions of the audio drivers being leftover after an update. There might be a removal tool available.

Yea - i've tried tinkering with Directx settings, to no avail. And, I've disabled my onboard audio because it's flakey. I have a soundblaster Live 5.1. It's a cheap card and I suspect that it may be the cause of my problems. However, as far as I can tell the drivers are up to date and functioning.

I have also turned off the sound acceleeration with no luck. Maybe its a SB Live issue? Wouldnt be the first time ive heard of SB Live having in game problems. I dont recall if it does it on my onboard or not. And no,..its not a big problem,...untill you spill hot soup on yourself as you fall out of your chair from fright.
