Attention On Deck! Come To Order!

Good morning gentleman!

It seems that SH4 has created more than a little disappointment! In general I gather that the game (which I am still waiting to receive) was released - in politicaly correct terms - somewhat flawed or in blunt terms a ----- mess!

To add to this insult is injury - a Patch 1.1 was said to be available and then all of a sudden is not????? I attempted to go to that link and only found "Object Not Found". In addition someone mentioned that UBI has not given the authorization to make it avaliable!!!! This just lends more flame to the already huge fire regarding the quality of the game that they have released - which up to now is not up to the standards that we have come to expect. If this were the true Navy someone would be up on charges of dereliction of duty - we need to call in JAG and NCIS!

All kidding - maybe - aside - can we have one individual research and then post as our Main Source of information - information on the Patch and when where how it will be made available. Being in retail for as many years as I have I find it highly unusual for a company - UBI - to release a game that by all indications they Knew was faulty at best - and then refuse to release the Patch that may fix some of the issues to begin with. What are they so afraid about? Money does talk.

I took a glance at the "Captains in Port" and do not notice Neal's name - though that does not mean he is not reviewing the site. He has remained somewhat aloof at the moment. I do not blame him as he has given us a unique format to discuss our mutual interest in submarine warefare of WW II. He may be - as someone indicated - waiting to see if and when a patch is available to better critique the sim.

I for one trust in Neal's judgement and ask that he step to the plate and be our informant. We then will have one individual who has our trust who will inform us on these matters.

I wish to thank all those who have tried to help. I just feel we need to consolidate our efforts and I for one vote for Neal.

Happy Hunting??

In all fairness to Onkle Neal he has said he did not receive the game until very late. One has to assume two important factors here.

1. the game WAS not ready to release by the DEVS, but forced as a premature game by UBI, hence the MASSIVE patch that is soon to follow.

2. the fact that I now OWN this game, buying it entirely on the now doubtless pictures of "Rendered Artwork" and NOT in-game footage.....Which would have shown the AA limitations..I now have given UBI £50 for an unfinished product which by today's HIGH gaming standards just does NOT cut it. I'm sorry to say that this game is FUGLY to look at....Without the post processing everything looks flat, with PP on its better but dark on my TFT...I had to crank up my Contrast and brightness to get it looking ok'ish...

The biggest downer though is the games locked AA and no natural Resolution but rather they used "Up-scaling" which sucks totally. I have a Viewsonic VX944 which is fixed at 1280X1040..Its the fasted TFT in existence bar non with a response timing of 2ms. You have to go into the games .cfg and enable Vsync , don't count on your default window setting to override this function.

Lastly I own a 8800GTX and even using nHancer I cannot force any AA into this game AT ALL...I even tried using other profiles in NHancer for BF and COD with no success...
I'm awaiting the patch like possible thousands of others who bought this game by Pre-order....Let down I think so....

To release a game in this day and age WITHOUT any AA at all even if its defaulted by Windows and not by any in-game function(Like SH3) at least the game would would look very decent at AA X 16Q, which my card can run easily with every other heavy textured game that I own Including probably the most intensively textured game out there Oblivion!!!! Plus I can run this AA setting WITH HDR and AF @ 16....

A flabbergasted gamer

I got out of my bunk for this????

For one, from somebody who has SH4 and has been playing it. THE GAME IS NOT A MESS. It looks great, it plays well, the TDC is awesome. I have had only one or two CTDs.

The explosions are really cool.

Here is me and a Japanese Crusier, Look at the bottom right of the photo, and you can see me coming in for the kill after stopping the vessel with two torps..... this is hard on 100%, the tdc is really awesome after you kinda figure it out.....

I was not attempting to criticze anyone especially Neal. and I appoligize if it came accross that way. Looking at all the threads that have come up just this morning regarding the patches - I just felt it would be better if we had a "front" person to investigate and then inform the group. I just felt Neal with his background and connection with the gaming world would be the best suited.

Great! It seems, as you indicate, "kinda figure it out". Enlighten us - since you are now out of your bunk. There are many who have issues - just reading the threads in this form from two days back to just this morning indicates that there are real issues. If you have found none or just minor ones and have found a way to correct them please let us know.

Happy Hunting

Yup there is some goofyness going on with this and that but you think its noisy in here now what if they had pushed back release another 3 or 4 months !

Oh and quit stalking Neal

I understand the concerns. I'm only able to check forums and reply about 3 times a day, the rest of the time I am onboard the USS Drum in the Coral Sea That's why my replies come in batches at one time.

I have been playing with the v1.1 patch a couple days now. It has made the game very stable, fixed the depth gauge in feet now, (as you can see from the I uploaded on You Tube yesterday) added some needed crew reports such as "Firing One", and the AI is more responsive.

We're getting there. Have faith in the dev team, they know what they are doing and they are dedicated. That has not changed from Day 1.

Um, well, I had some problems loading the game at first, loading my career mission. So, I went to my Nvidia control panel and turned off all properties the were 'forced' to 'application controlled' and then went back and reloaded set on max properties, and the game ran fine.

The stopwatch feature doesn't work. Using the stopwatch to determine speed. I have started guessing. (since I don't want to start doing geometery to figure this stuff out) That also includes figuring out the AOB. It is just plain work and guessing, at which I am getting better at.

That is what I have figured out so far.

That and I don't like the radio and phonograph w/o turning the ingame music on. But so far I've had way to much fun playing to experiment with messing around with music files and such.

I don't really have much in the way of issues. There are things that I would like. I would like to be able to click crewmen and have options for things, mainly the OOD on the bridge, but it isn't like on SH3 here. Neither is a captain's cabin. But is that the same as saying that this isn't a game that I have waited for w/ more baited breath than anything else since Silent Service? It ain't. I am glad this game was developed. It is freaking cool. It will get even better. I'll be playing it for years.

For goodness' sake, some people are acting like this is the recreation of Star Wars Galaxies or something. Ever played that? Then you'd see something with some serious development problems...

My get out of the bunk for this comment was b/c of the original title of this thread....

As to guessing on the AOB, I like this, even if I ain't Dick O'Kane, who developed a really cool method to practice this, which consisted of a lazy susan, a reversered pair of binoculars, and a ship model........

a crewman would turn the lazy susan, which had the ship model on it, and the bow angles marked where o'kane couldn't see them. He would stand across the officers wardroom looking through the binocs and guess the angle.

He got to where he could figure the angle w/in a few degrees everytime...
