Default Some bugs are no bugs - its FADE, the copy protection

There are rumors in the german ubiforum that SH4 use FADE. Some bugs like the 2Dcrew, wrong working cannon etc. are because of cracked software.

This might clear some reports up.

The moderator in the ubiforum said someting like that they have found some illegal SH4 versions in the net that do not represent the quality of the original product.

Sports Interactive who make the 'Football Manager' series had a similar anti-pirate deterent where people who were using No-cd cracks etc were paying double transfers fees when buying players.:rotfl:

I didn't realise that FADE was still being used by anyone. Operation Flashpoint was the last game I remember having it although I am sure there have been others.

I doubt that. Firstly, as I remember it, OFP was the first game to use "FADE" and I've seen in ArmA a couple of messages about copied games "FADE-ing" but those were there in OFP too so they're probably just a hangover from that.

Since SH4 is by a different publisher and dev group, I don't think they'll use the same term.

Additionally, FADE in OFP (and ArmA if it is really there which I doubt) supposedly made subtle things happen, like your shots would be less accurate and/or have shorter range for example. There was nothing obvious like crashes and graphic anomalies as far as I'm aware.

SH4 uses Securom, I can´t imagine that they use two copy protections at the same time.

I believe it. While there are certainly bugs and missing features, I'm not experiencing most of the bugs people have been reporting. Not to get anyone's hopes ups about it being "not that bad" or anything, but a lot of those reports sound like they're playing a different game.

Maybe I've just been lucky so far.

I think it's a bit irresponsible to be spreading such rumours.

I bet SH4 was as a copy in the WWW before even it was released...

If this bug came from illegal copys this will be the first bugs I would like

I get my copy from Amazon tomorrow... Lets see if I can reproduce any of ths bugs...

Everybody blame China for copy cars and machines.... but copy software is ok???

r.
As far as I know ARMA has FADE.

And BTW, if someone uses a nocd it does not necessarily mean that he is not an owner of the original gameversion. Some people use this only to preserve their discs. So dont blame everyone with the FADE problems that he is a pirate.

Yeh, and it sometimes is activated even if the player has legal copy of the game...

Besides, why would UBI keep this as a secret?

Let´s say someone downloads the game from some site, installs it and plays it. He gets crashes and loads of graphical glitches and thinks "OMG! This game is crap!", so he unstalls and forgets the game not knowing that it is actually a method of copy protection? If the player would know that this all is b/c of "FADE" and he would otherwise like the game, he would most likely go to the store and buy it.

hmmmm i guess your right, i just checked the sites that supply them and sh4 does have one available to use and an img to save the disc spinning up constantly...

maybe if all those that may use it with these stick men incidents etc, can try it without if they are of course using such a file..

I have the Deluxe box and i got most of the "real" bugs like Target speed, Captains log in office not working plus a bunch of other bugs. There is no FADE in SH4.

SH4 has for sure a lot bugs. But the ones that are maybe linked with fade are only the 2Dcrew, the bug with the cannon that does not shoot correctly and maybe stuff like suddenly out of fuel or out of battery power.
