Wow, the 5700 card....I remember that one....
How long have you had it? I had it for 2 years, then it got fried. Useless piece of "gobbledygook" if you ask me. now with my new computer, I have the BFG GF7950GT OC card. I think it will do fine with SH4, any confirmation on that? (2GB RAM too)

Although I still have yet to recieve the game I will be playing SH4 (hopefully) on an Intel D865PERL with a Northwood P4 3.0 800FSB socket 478, 1.5 GB of DDR1 PC3200 RAM and an ATI X800 Pro 256MB AGP.
For those of you holding on to your AGP systems (like me) I recommend you check this out if you are planning on doing some video card upgrades. You can see a really nice review on these latest high-end AGP video card while running on older hardware like ours on the following Tom's Hardware reviews: AGP Platform Analysis, Part 1: New Cards, Old System We see what the new generation of AGP cards can do for an Athlon XP 2500+ http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/...form-analysis/ AGP Platform Analysis, Part 2: New Cards, Single-Core System We see what the new generation of AGP cards can do for an Athlon 64 3400+. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/02/...form-analysis/ And here are some nice offers taht I found online: The XFX GeForce 7600GT AGP 256MB GDDR $159.99 (will outperform a 6800 Ultra AGP) http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321108 The SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950PRO 512MB GDDR3 AGP $224.99 (best AGP option at the moment) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102071 |

I have a fairly old system, p4 3.0, 1gb, radeon x1300, and it runs pretty reasonably on my machine. On medium settings I get about 15-20fps outside. It can be a little choppy at the start of a patrol when I'm trying to look at the map (the lack of ram, I imagine) but it soon stabilizes and is pretty consistent for the rest of the game. I'm pleased. I thought it'd run much worse. And it loads faster than SH3.

Thanks for the replies to my question. I have a gig of kingston so I should be just ok in that department. I don't even know if my MB has room for 2 gigs of ram. Do they sell ram in 1 gig sticks now?
Also thanks to the above poster for the AGP vid card links. I was thinking of building a new machine (which I obviously haven't done in years) for Battle of Britain, but if I can get away with one more AGP vid card upgrade, I may just do that and move on with life. My gaming these days is mostly sims and I don't have a whole lot of time for even that anymore. So if I can run the few games that I really like, then all is well. Most of the stuff developers are coming out with these days, I'm totally not interested in. Computer games and TV shows have the same MO. Find one thing that works then milk the crap out of it for as long as possible. Innovation is a non issue. So I tend to stick with the known developers. |

I think those people running newer boards such as the late VIA AGP socket 939 motherboards should be fine as long as they are running good mid-range to high-end cards.
i'm not saying people with older hardware need to start freaking out but definately those of us that are still running 533/800FSB socket 478 CPUs as well as those running NForce2 AthlonXP CPUs may want to have some money ready for some future upgrade. Like a fellow poster said, with age and a busy life you stop trying to play everything out there and just sticks to the "big boy games." If you're not playing the mainstream games then there isn't such a big necesity to upgrade anymore. I don't give a rats ass if Crysis gets cancelled, but if woulda have been mighty pissed off if SH4 woulda have gone down the tubes. Oh and your welcome for the AGP video card links. I hope they help you out. |

So . . . you're using an old video card which is far inferior to the cheapest bottom end modern video card and is explicitly not supported, and then complaining the game doesn't run well?

Did you read the thread ? I think your misinterpreting the tone of my post.
I was letting people know how it runs on a less than stellar card, as alot of people on this forum say they dont have a super rig. |

Yikes!
Hey guys! Well I play most of my games on my laptop (its an 2 yr old alienware) since my desktop is tooo damn loud with all the fans it in (3 yr old alienware)... The laptop has a 3.02 GHZ pent 4 and 1 gig or ram.. but the vid card is an ATI mobility Radeon 9600/9700 series. I don't mind if my graphics are cranked up but I hope it just plays decent ya know.
For the record, alienwares kind of suck. Both of the ones I have owned crapped out within the first 3 months (laptops moboard died, main HD on desktop died). I wish I could update my vid card but as it is now, laptops don't make great game comps.. wayyy too much heat generated (which causes a lot of lock ups), can't really upgrade, etc etc. But I never had probs with SH3. I can't wait til SH4 reaches the Power Zone on base here in Germany.. New stuff takes FOREVER to reach here... maybe by the time SH4 comes here, SH5 might be comming out back in the states ![]() |

I have a 9800Pro as well. Low-medium settings are tolerable on open seas but when you're targeting ships it gets pretty sluggish so I'm going to order a EVGA 7600gt (CAN $125). Think I'll throw in that other gig of ram I have lying around as well.
