yes, but others have mentioned it runsfine on win2k with a 6000 series graphics card, its not the OS.

I run on MED settings, and while it takes time to load and in the 1st few minutes its very slow to jump station to station after it settles down I get about 20/25fps.


CT it does freeze at times but after about a minutes its ok, little blocks of slow down or freezing in CT.

Win2000 is just WinXP minus all the tardiness. For all intents and purposes the two os'es are similiar.

Probably not related but make sure you do a defrag, it will sometimes load files during the game and if the files are fragmented it can take longer to load them causing more stuttering or longer stutters...

I suspect part of the slowdowns is due to the 1gig of ram it probably pages a bit too.

Wow, the 5700 card....I remember that one....

How long have you had it? I had it for 2 years, then it got fried. Useless piece of "gobbledygook" if you ask me.

now with my new computer, I have the BFG GF7950GT OC card. I think it will do fine with SH4, any confirmation on that? (2GB RAM too)

Although I still have yet to recieve the game I will be playing SH4 (hopefully) on an Intel D865PERL with a Northwood P4 3.0 800FSB socket 478, 1.5 GB of DDR1 PC3200 RAM and an ATI X800 Pro 256MB AGP.

For those of you holding on to your AGP systems (like me) I recommend you check this out if you are planning on doing some video card upgrades.

I have a fairly old system, p4 3.0, 1gb, radeon x1300, and it runs pretty reasonably on my machine. On medium settings I get about 15-20fps outside. It can be a little choppy at the start of a patrol when I'm trying to look at the map (the lack of ram, I imagine) but it soon stabilizes and is pretty consistent for the rest of the game. I'm pleased. I thought it'd run much worse. And it loads faster than SH3.

Thanks for the replies to my question. I have a gig of kingston so I should be just ok in that department. I don't even know if my MB has room for 2 gigs of ram. Do they sell ram in 1 gig sticks now?

Also thanks to the above poster for the AGP vid card links. I was thinking of building a new machine (which I obviously haven't done in years) for Battle of Britain, but if I can get away with one more AGP vid card upgrade, I may just do that and move on with life.

My gaming these days is mostly sims and I don't have a whole lot of time for even that anymore. So if I can run the few games that I really like, then all is well. Most of the stuff developers are coming out with these days, I'm totally not interested in. Computer games and TV shows have the same MO. Find one thing that works then milk the crap out of it for as long as possible. Innovation is a non issue. So I tend to stick with the known developers.

Depends on the *type* of ram. "Regular" DDR has been available in 1gb sticks for a few years, now.

Indeed, DDR2 ram is available in 2gb sticks, allowing many motherboards to run 8gb of ram pretty easily.

You do realize new video card 'generations' are released on a 6-month schedule (more or less), right? The GeForce FX 5700 was released four years ago now - and it wasn't even the "high end" cards at the time! No offense, but in the PC world, that's practically a fossil. Heck, it won't even run the enchanced desktop in current version of WINDOWS. When your video card can't run *Windows*, you know it's old!

I think those people running newer boards such as the late VIA AGP socket 939 motherboards should be fine as long as they are running good mid-range to high-end cards.

i'm not saying people with older hardware need to start freaking out but definately those of us that are still running 533/800FSB socket 478 CPUs as well as those running NForce2 AthlonXP CPUs may want to have some money ready for some future upgrade.

Like a fellow poster said, with age and a busy life you stop trying to play everything out there and just sticks to the "big boy games." If you're not playing the mainstream games then there isn't such a big necesity to upgrade anymore.

I don't give a rats ass if Crysis gets cancelled, but if woulda have been mighty pissed off if SH4 woulda have gone down the tubes.

AMD athlon 64 3500 (1.8ghz)
1 gig ram.

i have enviromental effects on. maybe something else. my mouse sure wont fly across the screen like the one in the YOUTUBE vid, but apart from the ussuall start its fine.
on start up i hit the deck and do a 360 with the binos. all is fine after that.

lighting effects are the ultimate killer on my rig.
still looks nice and runs quite well indeed.

This makes me feel better. I have the 6200OC 256mb card. 1 gig ram and the AMD 3200+. With luck mine should run like yours. I plan on overclocking the card up some more You can make a 6200 run like a 6600. Some of the 6200 cards 4 more pipelines can be opened for a total of 8 like the 6600 card.
