Wow !...A posative post and indeed whole thread about SHIV, Do you want a cup of coffee, splash of rum in it ?...hold on I'll get that for you.

It makes a nice change to see a post/thread like this with so much other negative vibes on the forum...I was just about to quit subsim...mind you they are at it on Ubi forums too I cant get away from it.

Yes Ok so the game needs to be patched, er...nothing new there then. But its nice to read that you say "the game is fun and nice"

Just as long as it's playable until patched them I'm easy !

Shut them down ? Sorry I dont know the story could you please elaborate ?
IIRC, Northrop-Grumman demanded an excessive amount of royalties from Ubi and Maddox Games if they included anything Grumman or any other company in their conglomeration. This essentially shut down any additions of US aircraft in patches and updates.
Yes - UBI/Maddox made a big mistake by using phrasing like:
"Grumman TBF Avenger" instead of "TBF Avenger" - and then they didn't ask permission on top of that. So...the lawyers at NG got into a huff and ensured that add-on patches did not include any additional US models. What went missing you ask? How about a dynamite looking Devestator and a very cool model of the USS Yorktown. A real pity that UBI was so foolish and NG was so greedy.

Not going to happen. Subs are made by US ShipPorts that are bought and paid for with US tax dollars.

Planes are a different story. Companies Build the planes and hope and prey the Military buys the contracts.

What can I say...

Back in the Pac for a good attack

I love the Pacific theatre and am quite happy to be in it again. I think it's even more suited to my own tastes, though I'm not abandoning my U-boats either.

This is gonna be a lot of fun. Hopefully all the more fun once we get some mods and patches to balance it out more nicely...

Pacific is very welcome indeed. Haven't been there since Silent Service II. I still have the manual and I've re-read it while waiting for SHIV to arrive. Still a great read as all Microprose manuals. Those were the days...

I'm apprehensive, but happy to be back in the Pacific. Looking forward to getting a hold of the game tomorrow.

You can actually demand royalties for simulating a 60 year old aircraft?

I'll always be an Atlantic guy. I enjoy the boats better, and the lone wolf taking on an entire convoy, and the campaign going from easy to hard verses hard to "where did all the targets go?"

However any REAL subsimmer will like enjoy and be excited about either, and that is my position as well. I often find (ever since IL-2 for sure; big learning experience) that historic games like this can drive you to learn a lot more about the history. Atlantic, pacific, air sea ground, it doesn't matter. Learning more about history is always a good thing. I'll be reading up on my pacific history while I play, rest assured.

I was ready to load up SH1 again, just so I could cruise the Philippines one more time.
