Default Uss Cod-224

Can't wait for Silent Hunter 4.

SH3 was absolutely fantastic as everyone knows.

Just thought I would mention the USS COD.

A Gato class Submarine.

It's a museum in Cleveland, Ohio...USA.

I've visited it a few times and it's great.

Check out it's website. It's got its history and It's also got links to many other US Subs and their history's.

Yep, I live in the Cleveland area, have been there, and have posted pictures from my trip there a few times. Very nice. If you go there you have to buy the pin which has the boats logo of the torpedo crushing through a skull......very nice.

Maybe this year when they open up they will sell copies of Silent Hunter 4???

Nice Link!

I visited the USS Drum (Gato class) in Mobile this week. Here are my pics:

@ Gino: That first pic of the USS COD is a nice one. It's a little painful to look at: a little like looking at a wild animal in captivity. She needs to be sailing in the Pacific and soaking up a little of that tropic climate!

@ Cowboy: Welcome to Subsim, sailor!

The Cod is definately a beauty and I hear that she is still in her complete WWII appearance. If i ever get a chance to visit Cleveland I will have to spend about a day at the Cod!

Is the Conning Tower of the Cod open to visitors? I've visited so many WWII Subs that have it closed and locked to visitors. Kind of dissapointing. Luckily the Drum's was open.

Cod's conning tower is closed to the public. Reasons are two fold. Our insurance policy doesn't permit people in this cramped space.
The other is that all the equipment in the CT is still original. Furthermore, our TDC is the only Mark 4 in the US (perhaps even the world) that is actually working. So, although many visitors can keep the hands in their pockets, there is a larger group that would destroy this unique piece of equipment in a matter of moments.

BUT, there may be good news... We are looking into the feasability of a special program in which we will do guided tours through the entire sub (including the conning tower) The first ideas are to perform this 'Admirals Tour' once or twice per month. We'll see..

I'll post the results of the study on the Forum.

groetjes,

The USS Cod saved the crew of the O19 ones, a dutch submarine in the Chinese sea who crashed into a coral reef.

groetjes,
Brilliant. I would love to take that tour. All I have to do is figure out a way to render the wife unconcious for 12 hours or so on the next trip up to Indiana. The only thing that would be better than this is to let a group uf us take her out once a year and sink something. For that I would divorce the wife if I need to.
