Radio broadcasts and music - Page 2

If your looking for for the real musical stuff for those two or three years during the Pacific war it's not hard to find out what interested most all soldiers ,sailors.and airmen musically.

For one there was a very strong radio station in Hawaii that was pumping out music music music. FDR and dumb Hitler speeches were gathering dust next to all that swing. Apparently it was heard all the way over in Japan.Soon there were floating AFM stations aboard vessels that were flooding the whole South pacific with groove.

Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey,Benny Goodman,Lionel Hampton, The Andrew Sisters, Bing Crosby,The Bob Crosby Band,.it goes on and on.....
Do a little research yourself.Look at Armed Forces Pacific Entertainment 43 to 45.

We overran the Pacific with music during those times.
I'm sure there were many a guitar,uke,accordian clarinet,trumpet,trombone etc onboard, stashed somewhere on ships as well as subs.
Music was as important as war itself for most all soldiers, and sailors, and airmen during WWII, Korea, Vietnam (my war) and now in Iraq.
When those subs had some open water,and a clear sky, and no Japs in the vacinity chances are you would hear the music before you would see that Gato.

yes, of course and only few skippers will realy need the 24hour broadcast of DDay...

most of those mp3s are 32kbps mono, so 2gigs of that would be pure overkill! I think all these links we already have make a nice pool to pick the best out of it.

My focus is to play SH4 and not to listen to ALL broadcasts all day

I cannot seem to get .ogg to play. I've downloaded a couple of utilities, but no joy. Is there something really simple to use that just plays them? I don't need to edit or anything, I'd just like to be able to hear them to identify them.

The official OGG website over at http://www.vorbis.com/ exactly tells you what to do in order to play them.

It seems even windows media player can do it.

I did not try it yet but am gonna do it right now.

VERY IMPORTANT RADIO !!!

This was broad casted in 1945 Aug 15th exactly 12pm.

Voice is Emperor Hirohito.We called this "gyokuon housou"
(info wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyokuon-hoso )
It is hard to understand almost even Japanese,
becasue what he saying was very very difficult term.
Almost Japanese had first time to listened his voice.

Perhaps we could revive interest in these files after the game is more stable, but it sure does add to the imersion factor.

I voluntered for two patrols on a boomer to be the ships disc jockey, during the Vietnam war no less, but the crew really enjoyed the daily broadcast.

"This is radio station WSUB only the best in news, sports and weather ..."

Said that a few times lol
