I think flags were more important in SH3, because there were so many different enemies, and earlier in the way you had to make sure they were not neutral to you.

So, I guess, a bit smaller would be fine... doesn't bother me. What is kinda silly is them waving underwater. :p

I think the SH4-flags wave in a weird way...I like the SH3-ones more.
And yeah...the underwater waving is silly, lol.

I think they're way too big and I don't like the way they wave.

Have them be of realistic size, and move or remove them where they don't fit in (fishing boats didn't fly huge flags from their mast-tops, for example).

I think the biggest problem with the flags is not the size but how bright and colourful they are. The merchants in the MS video look very nice and weathered, but they're flying a bright white flag from the mast! The first mod I attempt is going to be toning down the flag colours.
The waving motion is pretty terrible but I only see that as an issue for movie-making...looking through the periscope I don't expect to be able to see the fluttering of the flags.

I would say just a bit over sized.... Not much of a problem for me though. I think it was thoughtful of the japanese to make their nations flag a nice bullseye for me

Does any one have actual WWII era pictures of Jap vessels flying the flag ? Because not only the size, but especially the location of the flag seems some what odd to me.

Yes - refer to this thread for more discussion, measurements, photos, and everything you never wanted to know: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=107273
I agree that the underwater behavior is wierd, but am not so worried about that. I think it would take quite a bit of programming to fix that. Just making them smaller shouldn't be too difficult.

Roger that, Barkhorn - really enjoyed the website of Japanese ship pics!

Mylander

P.S. Monty Python comes to mind:

- "We should keep the flags just as big as they are! It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression!"

- "It's symbolic of your struggle against reality!" :rotfl:

Found some interesting USN WWII Submarine battle flags, take a look.

http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq62-1.htm

As far as SH IV oversized flags ( I'm in the middle on this one :hmm: ) guess we'll have to make a flag mod.
