I hate to torpedo an otherwise good joke, but those seagulls in "Finding Nemo" are saying "mate" with a strong aussie accent, not "mine". You probably need aussie ears to hear it....sounds more like "mite" than "mate".
The joke in "Nemo" is that if you are in an Australian crowd, at least in an "ocker" (rougher kind of) crowd, the word "mate" will be uttered so frequently that it would be about the only word that would stand out of the collective babble....also, an entire conversation could be had with the single word "mate" spoken with different inflections, just as in parts of the USA you could use "dude".
Pearls of aussie wisdom, kaluens.....

Im using SH3 Commander but i dont have the sabatoge/malfuntion option on. And i was in the heat of the battle against a cargo ship so i was at normal playing time. There were no warships around and the cargo ship didnt have guns. But i remembered wat happened now. I had a full crew in the Diesel engine room but i had four guys in the Electric engine room and then i had a medic in the back wardroom. The guys in the Diesel room died and the medic in the wardroom also died, then within seconds the game said my uboat was destroyed.

Airplanes will drop depth charges based on guesses of your position provided by surface craft, even if you are submerged. I've had it happen in harbors (well, harbor, actually - Port Said, in my unsuccessful attempt to find the Averof.)

Maybe you got unlucky and they managed to hit you from an estimated position.

Could be, but very unlikely since I sailed about one hour at -40 meters, and changed course as soon as I was around -15. The explosion occured when I went to periscope depth to check the sky before surface.

I guess mines are probably only in shallow waters, so does anyone know if there is a "safe depth" over which mines can't be layed?

Can't speak of a safe depth but I do know the only definite way of avoiding them is to stay surfaced
