Default Depth/length of towed array?

Is there a way to to determine the depth of your towed array? I assume that it is a function of your speed, the length deployed, and any currents (if modeled). However, I generally just muck around with depth until I get a clear reading... It's a little irritating when you are close to the thermocline or ground.

Also, is there any advantage to fully deploying the TA? All I find is that more length = longer delay before accurate bearings after a turn

There is no way to read length or depth on sub. On FFG there is depth and heading.
Outer 3D view is your only option.

There is no need to extend TA more then 1/3, except when you want to get under layer.

Does a fully deployed TA help increase the accuracy of target distance if triangulating with another array?

(i.e if you have a sphere and TA contact on a target, would having a fully deployed TA increase the accuracy of a distance estimate by using where the bearing lines intersect on TMA?)

Sure .. just because of geometry .. wider triangle gives smaller range error. 1/3 array gives 3 times error roughly.
Anyway .. if you get the target on SA and TA you'll have good range estimate even with 1/3 array.

PS: Why am I Samurai navy ? Did I misspelled something (again) ? :rotfl:
