It would be different if you could go to the torpedo room e.g. and talk to the people. You would get 3 or 4 sentences to chose from which would influence the conversation and the morale etc. If they could do that a dream would come true.
try to think of it as the same kind of thing as the free roaming camera and the ship Museum. Places where the captain would surely rarely go

If additional compartments are useless - as you saying - then we don't need those comp. which are already in the game. What are you doing in coomand room or radio room? Nothing that you can't do with keyboard shortcuts. So: we don't need submarines interior, we don't need better graphics, we don't need exterior view and living ports - let's get back to SH2 (?)
It's immersion - that is why additional compartment are needed.
But i understand why there wont be additional compartments in SH4 (bloody deadlines!). But i also hope that dev team will release a patch to add at least radio room) or SDK so modders could do the job.

I don't care about the realism, I just think that extra compartments are boring, nothing to do for me.
The Museum isn't that important to me as well, I rarely look at the ships. The only thing I really need is the free roaming cam to take some nice screenies.

Did we have so many compartments in AoD? No and I still loved the game. It's not about all the nice and shine compartments, it's about the gameplay. If the gameplay rocks nobody will miss a radio room or or anything else because they don't serve any purpose (IMHO).

Same. I'm facinated with the subject matter, so I want every detail they can add.

Well AotD is exceptional, no matter if there were compartments or not.
Personally, I don`t miss lack of the compartments so much, but I must say they add to the game atmosphere a LOT. IMHO, it would be great if there were all compartments modelled, from the stern to the bow. If not in SH4 then SH5 perhaps

I guess the only problem is the terrible amount of work though. It`s not even about the interiors, this could be done with little complications actually. But adding crew to them... moving, resting, loading torpedoes, taking watch in the Engine room et c. et c. not to forget chatting, perhaps repairs when damaged... that`s the problem.
Pure guessing, well done compartments with all due crew would double the amount of work the graphics take...

Yes but if current technology allows developers to give us great gameplay from AoD + great graphics and all those things that have influence on immersion (like fully modeled submarine interior)... I mean - we could have both: amazing gameplay and all eye candy things (but its all about money and time...).
You are right - gameplay is most important thing but theres a lot of peope who wants "ultimate" sub-simulator and after SH3 they hoped that SH4 will be such...

I've heard that SH4 is gonna be more accesible to Modders, so maybe those guys can build some extra compartments?

According to an interview with Emil Gheorge, we can't add new 3d models to the game.

Default Does anyone know how many spaces there actually are?

Does anyone know how many spaces are modeled? Up till now, I've only seen 3. Are more than 3 spaces (Control Room, Dive Station, and Conning Tower) modeled? 11 spaces were modeled in SH3, and 6 of those were interactive, where one could control equipment contained in them.

Yes.Despite the reasons and nonreasons for the minimum amount of compartments there will be in SH IV,there seems to be a huge interest within the community for having them. You only have to look at the excitement created over in the SHIII Mods Section of this forum when someone thought he had cracked the problem of adding some more.

For me it's pretty simple; I'm playing a submarine simulator and enjoy being immersed in the experience. Having a fully modelled sub adds to the experience.

Making these sub interiors has to be a lot of work. Compare these two images:

That's a lot of detail in that room that you don't realize is there until you see a wireframe of it. Now take these pictures and multiply them by the number of sub compartments you want to see, then multiply that by the number of submarine types you want in the game. Then ask yourself how many of those compartments add value to the gameplay experience.

Thanks for the wireframe view Captain Krunch. This is why I figured any chances of Japanese or Allied subs being in this sim were slim to none. The amount of work required to accurately recreate the interiors of just a handful of American subs is enormous. All that plumbing and wiring. Then add the fact that US WW2 submarines still exist to get reference photos from. I don't think there are any existing I-Boats anymore.

Very bad news ...:hmm: it means no new ships ??

I guess that an aditional compartment also raises hardware requeriments, perhaps too much in a new game with this amazin graphics. and it is very important for market expectatives.

Also i prefer an aceptable command room, conning tower with a good world, than a very nice sub but a poor campaign or buggy gameplay.
