You can change your rank anytime manually simply by incrementing the *last* PlayerRank value found in Careers_0.cfg (to force it to start from your next patrol).

13 will be the highest number you can go to. Although, you may be able to get to 14 by also making this change to *_menu.txt:

170=Leutnant z. S.; Oberleutnant z. S.
171=Oberleutnant z. S.; Kapitänleutnant
172=Kapitänleutnant; Korvettenkapitän
173=Korvettenkapitän; Fregattenkapitän
174=Fregattenkapitän;Kapitän z. S. <- add in orange text BEFORE semicolon

And if you change your rank this way, SH3Cmdr will be happy, as this is not across the board rank bumping - SH3Cmdr will simply see it as a promotion like any other.

Oh, you may need to tweak your renown so that you don't lose your new promotion, or alternatively lower the RankLevel3 value, but try without first.

Both the Korvettenkapitän and the Fregattenkapitän ranks are recognisable and accepted by SH3Cmd. When I run GWX via SH3Cmd the game sees me as Kapitänleutnant but if I save and reload then the appropriate rank appears. It seems to be working fine. I haven't made changes to the RankLevel3 and my renown but I already had plenty to start with.

Geez, that was years ago, i dont remember the max rank you could achieve in AOD, i only know i maxed it and it was a bump or two higher then KptLt.

Hey mel, try this!
I've just finished a 3rd patrol. Well i started as a Lieutnant, after 1st patrol i was promoted to Oberlieutnant but when i exited the game it went back to Lieutnant. Then after 2nd patrol they promoted me to Kaleun, but when i exited the game it went back to Lieutnant again, although when i load a career, in the left hand corner box it states i'm a Kaleun (Kapitanlieutnant). What do you make of this?!

As Jaesen said in a previous post the promotion system is a bit tricky in SH3, as it is linked with your current renown. If your renown is enough for a promotion (the RankLevel value that is) then you will get it. If on the other hand your current renown is less than the required one for your rank then you lose the rank. That's my understanding of it at least. I have managed (with Jaesen halp and suggestions) to promote myself in a high rank and the game has absolutelly no problem of recognising it. The only problems I had so far is to make this promotion system (to ranks above KptLt) automatic with the renown in SH3. Unfortunatelly you have to edit the files yourself if you need to get high ranks but you must have quite a bit of renown (if you don't want to edit the RankLevel3) to keep the rank. I'll keep that in mind, although the trick with continuing career (going onto next patrol) straight after promotion seems to be the one to go for.

hey thanks for the info, I did wat it said to do and i changed some files and words, and when i loaded up SH3 Commander and it said i was a KORVETTENKAPITÄN, so i was promoted. I loaded up my profile and said i was promoted the 5th of january 1942. So im Commander Erich Hansen now, haha.

So do i have to add another Rank Level spot so i can keep getting promoted?

The game does not support any rank higher than Fregattenkapitän (which is Rank Level 14 if I remember correctly). So as long as you can rank yourself up to 14 you're OK. Make sure though that you have enough renown to avoid being demoted by SH3Cmd.

How do i change the renown values to capital ships so that if i sink one, i get a promotion and KN?:hmm:

edit. I kicked every capital ships renown value up to 8000, wonder what that will do?

You purhase upgraded and new equipment using the renown you amass as a result of what you sink. Similarly your rank is gained via what renown you have.
It is possible that by spending some of your renown to purchase equipment may result in you being demoted due to the fact you no longer have sufficient renown to maintain a certain rank.

Question.
It seems that the maximum still FregattenKapitan because "175=Exit To Menu".
No way out.

But, if I change all to begin the career(1939) with a level over Oberleutnant(ie: 164=Oberleutnant z. S.) it will be possible to go higher in the hierarchy ??
