People have discussed pink submarines many times, and pink u-boats have been modded for SHIII.
I think US boats had a record player, which is the usual American term. Believe it or not, the first tape recorder was made by the Germans in the 1920s, but wasn't perfected for commercial use until 1947: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Mullin
