For those of us who have not played SH3 and so have not taken part in the SH3 forums, could someone explain the history behind Bernard and how he came to be?

Here is the first time Bernard appear. He is the guy to blame for anything that goes wrong. Examples; Crash diving in shallow waters is typically Bernard's fault.. If you suddenly is rammed by a DD, Bernard is probably on watch duty.. and so on... He is the "Gomer Pyle" of the kriegsmarine..
