Will I run a totally 1x patrol in SH4? Gotta admit it's unlikely. I'm thinking I will use TC to get to my patrol area and then drop to 1x. Hey, I'm a big believer in 1x...but across the friggin' Pacific? :rotfl: Doubtful....!

Your a steely eyed missle man!!!! why is it the 1x patrols are ones that I remeber
because it truly becomes a real sub sim at 1x you become part of your crew heck the only thing missing are some smells and salt spray((2 things i can live without anyway

Yeah if I zoom out far enough in SH3 I can fit the entire world on my screen!!
I'm not sure if you're joking or not. I meant that modelled distances between places are less than they are in real life.

Lol, yes I wasnt being serious there, I've heard before that the modelled world in SH3 is smaller than in real life, and I've also read somewhere where a minute in SH3 is slightly shorter than a real minute too...tho I've never tried to verify either of these for myself.

I've used 1x lots of times. I crank up GWX and set my torpedoes and let my sub run 1x to whereever I'm going. I crank up the speakers and then go do whatever it is I want to do, letting the game run-on until I hear the WO state ship spotted, or Aircraft spotted, then I come-a-running

If I'm siting at the game continuous, sometimes I will go to 32x, 64x or 128x, depending where I am.

So you're not really playing at 1x, you're off doing something else and ignoring the game while it runs by itself. What's the difference between that and using time compression?

No, Sailor Steve, you are certainly NOT going to tell us that there are any people sitting at the screen and staring at the waves all the time their ship is going through the Atlantic at x1TC, are you?!

PS And I agree that playing at x1TC only "from time to time" isn't the same as playing whole the patrol that way. Everyone of us plays at 1 "from time to time", it happens that I play even slower, when I go on a side or to the kitchen to check, if my fridge lives its own life.

I'm probably going to get told off for this, but whatever. I have no problem with those who do 1x to put in perspective what uboat crews went through. But for those who do it for "added realism"... oh please... As you sit in front of your computer eatting doritos or watching TV with the volume on your game cranked so you year your WO call something, how is that realistic? You should be greasing torpedos or playing cards with a bunch of dirty smelly men. Now, I could be mistaken on the reason some do 1x, but if it isn't for realism, than why? Whats wrong with cranking the TC up a bit to skip the seabirds and waves?

Bring on the flames.

Why stop there? Why not 8192? That should cut down on the Atlantic transit time.

I mostly play SH3 at 1x, I leave it running one the one computer while I do things on another. So I will most likey run SH4 the same way.

I've been known to get bored with the game at 1X, and went off to grease the ol' torpedo...
