So I take it the moon phases/detection is modeled in stock 1.4? Impressive!

![]() It is probably easier to get spotted in lighter conditions...however, I don't think the game takes this into account because your lookouts have the same 'cat like' vision during darkness as they have in daytime. ![]() |

jimbuna,
why "debatable" for number 3? I was under the impression that while a straight downwards sonar ping has limited detection range , if you are in the immediate vicinity (say 2km) of a warship and try to find depth under keel you are broadcasting a loud "more Wasserbomben please" ![]() ![]() ![]() Could you please expand on this?

Only today I was diving, trying to evade a destroyer. I realised I was in fairly shallow water and "pinged" to see how deep it was. The little submarine(the noise detector-goes red when you're in trouble)went red and the destroyer made a bee line for me.
I say that I was about 2k away from him and fortunatly I did manage to shrug him off. Good job I did ping, there was only about 40m under me ![]() |

Yes, the bigger the phase of the moon the easier it is for escorts to spot you. I remember in the old Aces of the Deep you could circumvent this a bit by surfacing with the moon on one side of the convoy and you on the other...harder for them to spot you than you and the moon backlighting you on the same side of the convoy. SH3 only models the ambient light.
One thing I've wondered. Let's say there's a full moon in the sky but the clouds are completely overcast. Does SH3 take into account the overcast nature of the sky or does the code see "Full Moon" and go only by that? :hmm:
