I can live without it.

I hope there is a gramaphone placed somewhere in the sub as I liked playing my own mp3s during patrols.

I've been watching posts regarding the lack of a radio room with interest and trying to decide how I feel about it. My conclusion is (as if you could care less :rotfl: ) : No big deal as there's nothing there anyway. Radar was typically handled in the conning tower or control room and the captain didn't have to go to the radio room to read a message (unless some RM2c was looking for a change of rate to SM3rd).

If damaged and the radio is out, as captain, I don't really need to go look at it. Just knowing it's being worked on should suffice.

No offense intended to those who would like to see it .

Salute!

As I wrote in another thread, I was quite surprised to read this snippet from Neal's article too. I would have expected the next iteration of the series to add to the sections modeled within the subs, not subtract from the already arguably limited list as it stands. I'll concede that while the radio room isn't as critical as the control room, having it modeled serves an important function for many--it adds to the immersion of the experience. And that shouldn't be underestimated.

Whilst on patrol, all you have is the sub you're sailing in. At various times on patrol, I would appreciate and enjoy the freedom of exploring various compartments of my sub (contol room, engine room, torpedo room, etc). To have this ability adds immeasurably to the level of immersion you experience in a sim such as this. As good as SH4 is looking, I was dissapointed to read the develpment cycle for SH4 is being rushed. I would've preferred the devs had an unaccelerated development timeline, rather than be constrained by a limiting "accelerated development cyle" snapping at their heels.

While I can certainly appreciate that modeling extra compartments is time and resource consuming (read dollar), in the end I can't help but believe Ubi would deliver a superior product, period. Personally, I would've been willing to pay extra and wait longer for SH4's release. That being said, it is what it is. I can't deny the project looks exciting, and while I eagerly await the release--I can't help but wonder how much better it could have been.

I suppose I'm in the minority, but it doesn't really bother me. I probably spend 0.0002% of my time looking at the 3d views of the inside of my sub in SH3, and that's only when I'm bored while on patrol. So long as the functionality of the station remains, I really don't mind if the room isn't modelled.

Default No Capt'n's Cabin, Sonar Room, Passage or Radio Room?

I've not seen any other spaces in the screen shots other than a large control room and conning tower. In SH3 we really had 3 main spaces, each with 2 to 4 sub-spaces or stations. In SH4, we may just have 2 large spaces (Control Room & Conning Tower), probably with several sub-spaces. It looks like we are losing the entire forward space of Capt'n's Cabin, Radio Room, Sonar Room, and Passage-way that is in SH3.

The trade-off looks like we get very active 3D spaces and much improved sea graphics. Not to mention, much better game play from what I'm reading.

I can live with that, but I do enjoy wandering around in my IXB.

I rarely wandered the sub in SH3. So I can live without it. Just hope they get the outside wartime environment right.
