Default Starforce in 4??

Before my mouth starts wattering at the prospect of playing SH4 I kust want to check if Starforce will be the protection system in SH4 (like it was in 3). For obvious reasons, I absolutely refuse to buy any game that uses Starforce.

No starforce in SHIV, Ubi dropped Starforce months ago now.
So can buy SHIV with the peace of mind that you dont need to buy a new DVD drive to go with it.

Yes, thankfully Ubi announced back in April of last year that they were done with StarForce. Best news I read that day!

Ubisofts latest releases use Securom version 7 copy protection. So I guess this title will be no different.

I'm glad that's one arguement that has finally been settled. The Starforce controversy made for some of the bitterest, most repetitive and annoying posts I've ever read here.

Hasn't SecuRom caused just as many DVD drive problems?

I've already answered many similiar posts... but anyway, I tell you guys once more

THERE WILL NOT BE ANY STARFORCE IN SILENT HUNTER 4

SecuRom will replace it... but I hope that developers adopt a system that don't need to verify the disc when game runs... Like company of heroes Then there will be no disc streches

I wish they'd re-release SH3 without starforce. I wrote to Ubisoft Uk and suggested they bundle SH3 (sans starforce) with SH4.

Glad to hear SHIV wont have it. I recently recommended SHIII to a friend I play Battlefield 1942 with and he went out and bought it and cannot get it to run at all on his PC even though his computer is about a year old. I am thinking starforce is preventing him from enjoying the game.

What happens? Is there some kind of error message?

Not exactly sure but he was able to run it on his old crappy laptop that doesn't have a CD burner (which I thought was interesting) but on his one year old computer it won't run. I think it crashes right out from the menu after it starts to load. I had him get all the patches, put on greywolves and it doesnt work. He also has Windows XP 32 bit so that couldn't be the problem as I heard the 64bit version wont run SH3 due to starforce.

I doubt this has anything to do with SF. He should uninstall SH3, then manually delete the SH3 folder (c:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter iii) and also "my documents\sh3". Then reinstall SH3, install patch 1.4 (he doesn´t need the other patches), then GWX, then the December 23rd update.

If SH3 then still doesn´t work install the SF driver update:

I had a game that used securom and now my DVD player hasn't been the same since. Maybe it's just a coincidence...
But what I don't get is why to these guys like SF and Securom stay in your computer after you've deleted the game!?
I still have securom regkeys in my computer and it won't allow me to delete it.
This is simply not right.

EDIT: After a little searching on google, I found a small program that deletes the securom regkey, and another program to delete the hidden protected folder.
