Default HELP...I"m stranded and no longer able to play SH III

OK...I donated $25 to the website and was surprised I could download the Grey Wolf Mod. So I downloaded it and after reading it I uninstalled SHIII (as it was well modded), uninstalled the Seawolves expansion pack and put it away as it seems the Greywolves mod is a way better expansion in itself. Starting brand new I installed SH III, then I installed the Grey Wolf mod. While attempting to load it locks up on the title screen. After a little bit of research I realized I needed to apply the 1.4b patch. I uninstalled SH III again and reinstalled it to have a clean install. I then attempt to install the patch...no issue...it comes up with the below error message:

This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III US DVD v1.0 to 3.0 because of the following reason:

C:/program files/ubisoft/silenthunterIII/data/menu/en_help.txt: unknown version

I also try to install the patch for v1.3 first and get the same error message except the version numbers are just different.

I feel entirely helpless all of a sudden and am in need for someone who is on lifeguard duty to help me out. Any and all positive input is deeply appreciated.

Try deleting the help.txt files that the patcher complains about. They'll be replaced after the patcher runs fully.

Problem fixed...had to delete the entire ubisoft folder after uninstall as the grey wolf mod was still there and was interfering with the patches....on the other hand...outstanding mod except for the fact that the id book should have all the types of ships listed instead of saying just contact. Other than that...outstanding. Thanks for the help to those who replied as if I didn't look for those files I wouldn't have seen what the problem was.

Sounds like you have the generic contacts mod enabled
Run the installer again without the generic contacts ticked and will be back to normal

No need to uninstall just run the installer again over the top of your current install

How much memory do you have? If your system can cope with GW 1.1a it can cope with GWX.

Might also be useful to increase virtual memory values if you're a little short. Works for me with 512 mb.

Now that you have a good GWX make a copy of the entire data folder as it is so if/when you make any mod you will always have a complete source of a known good set of files.

While GWX is certainly superior to any previous mod including SW-Med; SW-Med does have some very nice ships not available in GWX that can be added with no extra editing for them to show up.
If you deleted the whole thing and want to add them it is not that hard.
Go to the UBI folder and change the SH3 folder name to GWX.
Now, install a new SH3 patch it to 1,4 )(I make a complete copy of that stock data folder as a reference source)
Install SW Med to the 1.4 stock version and copy the best ships to GWX. (I also make a copy of the SW-Med data folder as well)
The most important would be the sloops (type 2 frigates) Egret, Bittern and Grimsby, the Hunt class DE, the Hclass DD the 2 Italian light cruisers, The USS New Orleans heavy cruiser, the British light cruisers (particularly the Arethusa class), the extra carriers and really any others. They will not conflict. Copy all the ones you want from the Sea folder and make sure you then add the same from the roster files.
You already paid for SW-Med and now have the best SH3 version in GWX but there is no need to not use some of those very nice models you own in GWX.
Hopefully you will not be flamed for doing so.
