Mod request: Especially for sergbuto
It would be very nice if so. could make better models for the Large Planes in SHIII, which meet the standard of those serg used in his Air-attacks mod. Especially the Sunderland , the B24 and the Catalina are now no longer of the standard of the new planes. Maybe so knows good models of those from another game that could be modeled into SHIII.
Also with buoys now made we can maybe design some CC bases around the UK.

I'd like to see B-17's included as well. http://uboat.net/allies/aircraft/b17.htm
Would be neat to have single ones attack the uboats while others could be seen in formations heading to and from England. Last edited by Tikigod; 01-19-07 at 01:12 PM. |

B17s would be nice but it was the B-24 Privateers that attacked Greman Uboats. B17s flew bomb runs on shipping in the Pacific. As did the B-24s I believe. The USAAF in the ETO used B-17s just for bombing land targets. Tho British Bomber Command used B-17s as recon in search of Uboats.
Actually the B24s in SHIII are the wrong ones. Tha Navy's B-24 Privateers were of the single stablizer type, not the double stabilizers. It was the type B-24 Joseph P. Kennedy flew and was killed in. I'm suprised no one has realised this before now. But it really makes no difference to me which type they are in SHIII, the ones we have now work and do their job well.... sometimes too well. LOL But please correct me if I'm wrong, as I usually can be. ![]()

I think both were used the PB4Y-2 was derivated from the B24 which also served as ASW plane.

Before you started typing did you read the link I posted? It lists uboats sunk by B-17's. I had a great uncle who's crew was awarded an air medal for sinking a uboat with a B-17. Yes, B-17's were primarily used for land targets. But, uboats were opportunity targets if they were spotted along the way.
The link I posted says some b-17's were also fitted with depth charges and surface radar to specifically hunt uboats. This was probably because b-17s had a greater range and could fly to places smaller bombers could not. B-24's are Liberators not Privateers. Privateers are the PB4Y-2's. The B-24's you mention in SH3 are correct. They were land bombers as well as maritime patrol bombers that hunted uboats. B-24's were more adapted to attacking uboats but, both b-17's and b-24's attacked these vessels when the opportunity presented itself. Here are more links that could help clarify your confusion (optional reading of course): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-24_Liberator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PB4Y_Privateer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-17 Previous link: http://uboat.net/allies/aircraft/b17.htm (scroll down to where it says "Fighting the Uboats" as well as "Uboats sunk by this Aircraft" Quote:

11 uboats were sunk by B17s so it worth having them in SH3 even though that figure pales compared to the 72 Uboats sunk by Liberators.
