Default Modeling Question

I finally got great images of the K-Ship gondola to finish this part of my model
but I have a question.
I need to do the glass areas and want to do them like the aircraft canopies in GWX.
I'm not haveing any luck as yet but I'm also not UV mapping with 3ds Max, yet.
Do I need to map the glass areas in Max after I assign it a glass material?
Or is my Paint Shop Pro broke and doing the Alpha Channel wrong?
All I get is a black area that the sun shines through even if I assign the whole model
a glass material in Max then export.

The alpha channel in SH3 textures isn't used for transparency ( ), it's a sort of shine map, you should check with sergbuto, he's made some cabin's glass transparent in one of his ships.

Yes, the Wildcat and a few others in GWX are his correct?
I got a feeling it's the materials are not transfering right using a
freebie UV mapper.
I have a video tutorial on the Max UV mapping, I just haven't got
a chance to try and learn it as yet.

This is the front crew I'd like to place behind the front glass.
They are out of the crew dat file. I just adjusted the poses.

Moin,

opacity settings will not be transferred from any 3d programme. You might try this approach:

The red marked value is normally set to FF. Change it to 80, and this is what you´ll get:

You don´t even need an A-channel.

Regards,
DD

Yes, you can change the opacity setting for the corresponding TGA in the DAT file in question, (as indicated by DivingDuck). This is done by hex-editing the DAT file.

Thank you very much Gents.
Of all the Hex editing info I've found in the threads
I must have missed this bit of info.

Going real good!
Now that I can "Glass" it, I can finish the crew placement.
Took awhile to find the images I needed to get a really good
model that looks like the real deal.
And am getting much better with 3ds Max!
I have all weapons and equipment specs now also.
I also have a good handle on how they were used
which will make them all the more realistic.

Here's the front Crew members positions. Top guy is the front gunner. Lowest guy is the spotter. Note he has Binoculars now.

Looks great when in the ship is ready it will really make a great addition to the SHIII world. BTW maybe you could later also make the Blimps that were used un german Blockade Runners....

Do you have a link to a site that shows them?
I never heard of them but I'm no expert by any means.
I do see a lot of the Goodyear ships as I live roughly 60 miles from
Akron. I've also visited the hangers there in the past.

It would be real easy to re-do the Barrage Balloon for that.

Yup but i think it would be more of a problem to get it to move in a realistic way...
