I was hoping someone may give me some insight of what I may need to get started playing some of these sim games. I once had Janes 688 and it was fun- though I did not think I was getting everything out of it that it had to offer. I know that games today are more advanced. My computer has a AMD Athlon XP processor- not top of the line by any stretch but I would think it would work- also what other types of things are needed- I did all off my commands for 688 from my keyboard- anyway as you can tell - a rookie- Thanks- Waggle

![]() Well if your computer was able to handle 688i, then it should be able to handle Sub Command and Dangerous Waters (sameish graphics engine)
Those few games, in my opinion, are for the hardcore simmer, where instrument accuracy is king. You really should give Silent Hunter 3 a go, if your computer can handle it, with the GWX mod, which you can find links to around SubSim Welcome to the best simming community on the web! ![]()

No, you dont need a joystick, and yes, you can play online on several games, such as Dangerous Waters and Silent Hunter 3
![]() You can also use a microphone with Dangerous Waters, so you can actually speak the commands ![]()

On Dangerous Waters, you can use a joystick or menu commands for the MH-60 or P-3.

But it's just an (rudimentary) extra. You don't really need a joystick in DW. Normaly you plot your waypoints on the map and let the auto pilot do the job, so you can watch your sonar-screens.

There are also some virtual navies out there who can train you up and also they tend to get into big mp games too.
